Being a service provider, our company has to interact with our customers, and Salesforce is the best CRM out there to fulfill our needs. We needed to manage a lot of SQL Servers to contain our client's resources and internal resources and thus we required an ODBC driver, which was easy to use and maintain! Our company shortlisted dotConnect for Salesforce from LogicNets and Zoho, as being our primary database integration tool with Salesforce across our organization. Although being slow, dotConnect for Salesforce managed to handle our requirements easily and efficiently. As a provider and end-user, our overhead has reduced drastically in maintaining and managing multiple data sources. The integration and management of dotConnect for Salesforce with Visual Studio is the cherry on the top!
  • Provides powerful SQL engine integration out of the box.
  • Smooth integration and installation.
  • Create your data access layer without having to write any code.
  • Use same universal SQL statements without learning any new Salesforce APIs.
  • It can be slow but at the same time can be managed by considering other external factors like system compatibility, network & firewall issues.
  • Requires dependencies on certain tools and that may bring some unexpected compatibility errors.
  • Entity framework feature seems to be a bit lagging behind MS-SQL.
Scenarios best suited for dotConnect for Salesforce:
  • Mid or small-size companies with a very small team of staff can now easily manage their clients and their data.
  • The ease of deployment and consistency makes way for a more robust and reliable platform for the companies and their clients.
  • The use of cloud apps makes integration for companies easier to maintain, upgrade or install.
  • With the integration of SQL engine, hiring & training (if required) of new employees are easier.
Scenarios where dotConnect for Salesforce is less appropriate or not suited:
  • Companies working on another platform apart from Microsoft would have no option or find it hard to run and deploy dotConnect for Salesforce.

We have used nearly every CRM out there. but is the most popular amongst our F100 clients.
We also do a lot of data queries accessing different SQL servers. We needed an OBDC driver that was easy to use, easy to connect, and fast.

While dotConnect met two of the criteria very well, it's not fast, although it could be due to the other technologies involved in data queries: volume, FWs, etc.
  • Easy to use, client report-friendly
  • Easy integration when accessing multiple SQL servers on the client side
  • Pulls/connects easily from any application
  • Can be slow which may be more due to the many FW issues involved when accessing multiple SQL servers
  • While it was easy for us to use, a few of our client-side Database teams wanted something more robust
Most appropriate when running queries from the client side, as the installation is rather straightforward and reporting is quite transparent, clear, and supportive of decision-making. We have known some extremely seasoned data researchers who had found dotConnect not as sophisticated as they would have liked.
