A User Review: Years Later, Dropbox Still Makes Life Easier
Dropbox has the Flexibility to Serve a Variety of Needs Across Platforms
Dropbox is a great tool
Use Cases and Deployment Scope
We use Dropbox to share secure documents with our clients, and for them to share secure documents with us.
Pros
- Secure
- Easy to upload/download
- Easy to manage our documents
Cons
- Our clients are sometimes confused when following our link. They think they have to create a new account to view their documents.
- I wish I could view the password I create when sharing folders.
- When I add an expiration date on the link, I'd like the file to drop off the list on that expiration date.
Likelihood to Recommend
Dropbox is well suited to sharing secure documents and files with our clients, and them sharing with us.
Dropbox has been a game changer
Use Cases and Deployment Scope
We use Dropbox as our server. All of our documents are stored there and retrieved as we need them. We were also able to replace our backup system, knowing that Dropbox uses multiple locations. Despite an occasional time lag, the system has been flawless. Moving to Dropbox was a game changer for us!
Pros
- permit remote save to our folders
- allow download and upload seamlessly
- save our files!
Cons
- sometimes files don't upload right away
- sometimes we get "rogue" tmp files
- sometimes there is a time lag for retrieval
Likelihood to Recommend
Dropbox is great when you are working remotely. We love being able to retrieve information wherever we are, and to upload files from anywhere.

Dropbox
Use Cases and Deployment Scope
I use it as cloud storage to store much of my work data. It interfaces well with my desktop , creating a seamless experience. I find Dropbox particularly useful for sharing files with colleagues. It appears to be much easier to use than other sharing platforms such as OneDrive. I have never encountered an issue with accessibility when sharing files.
Pros
- file sharing with colleagues
- alerts when a file has been removed
- options for recovery of a file
Cons
- transfer of large video files
- it is somewhat expensive if being used on an occasional basis
- no other suggestions
Likelihood to Recommend

Great product value and easy to use.
Use Cases and Deployment Scope
I use Dropbox to electronically store client files. It assists be in not having to maintain physical files or have to print things out. I am an attorney and it is an efficient way to stay organized and there are so many useful features in one place.
Pros
- Easy to nativigate
- Accessible on many platforms
- Useful in program features such as scanning if using the app
- Great organizational utility
- Facilitates quick and efficient sharing capabilities
Cons
- Cleaner home page- list different in program functions versus files
- File and home page reflect the same information
- When a file is opened it opens in a new window not in the same so you have to use the back feature.
Likelihood to Recommend
Overall the program is easy to navigate and has a lot of features so you do not have to have multiple programs.
I do not like that the documents do not open in a separate window and I do not like that the features such as docsend are not on home page instead.
Dropbox the one and only platform for me
Use Cases and Deployment Scope
I utilize Dropbox Pro in my overall workflow, allowing it to be my primary file archive in everything I do. It’s extremely easy to share documents or request files from others that either have or do not have a Dropbox account. I use Dropbox both for personal and business purposes, allowing me to flow data between contexts smoothly and efficiently without any problems or hassles. The biggest problem I found with other cloud providers that Dropbox address is a significant number in integrations with the many platforms I use. This makes it vital to my workflow.
Pros
- The integrations that Dropbox offers our second to none. They are the primary reason I chose Dropbox over the others.
- The overall is experience that Dropbox offers enables my workflow to be as efficient as possible.
- Ability to request a file from someone has been a favorite feature of mine in particular with people that are not techy. This feature makes it fool proof for those that are unsure of what to do.
Cons
- On my Mac, it would be nice to have the ability to go in to a setting for all of my locally downloaded items. I understand each file has an icon beside it, but knowing in the greater details of my entire drive would be very useful.
- I feel like I can utilize Dropbox Paper more if I could access this feature via iOS, but that is not an option. I do like the web version, but I still am mobile for a significant amount of my workflow.
- I would like more education about Dash and all its features. I understand it can bring together all of my documents or at least connecting documents, but this would be awesome If this could maybe be connected with Paper on iOS, allowing the iOS Dash app to smoothly switch between.
Likelihood to Recommend
Highly recommend. I use this platform for both my professional and personal needs. I don’t think I trust any other platform as much as I do Dropbox. Their user experience and customer experience are exceptional. Dropbox has the best integrations in the market! The cost is very reasonable for what features are offered, too. I highly recommend Dropbox for anyone in the market for a cloud solution.
Long term user
Use Cases and Deployment Scope
All my personal files, papers, notes, photos are on Dropbox. I have rarely had a problem accessing them and can do some from various devices. I have used it for many many years now, soon after it came out, I think. I always recommend it as the safest way toback up things. I occasionally forget how to download to print, but finally figure it our.
Pros
- Stores documents
- Allows for personal filing system
- Accessibility from many devices
- Reliability
Cons
- Remind viewer that document is not really on their device
Likelihood to Recommend
I already did, so well suited to safe storage
Versatile and reliable -- my work depends on it
Use Cases and Deployment Scope
Use Dropbox for sharing research documents and drafts among colleagues. Improvements over the years to Dropbox's tracking of who has a file open, and alerts to avoid conflicting versions, have helped immensely. I used to use this also for sharing readings and the like among students for classes; better course-management platforms have made that use less necessary.
Pros
- share documents
- maintain version history
- allow access across platforms/devices
Cons
- still get some conflicting versions
- clearer information on what gets synced across users vs adjustable by each (e.g. folder names/structures)
- sharing and unsharing is sometimes a bit fussier than it might be
Likelihood to Recommend
Collaborative research projects (compiling sets of background documents or research data) or publications are the most obvious use, in my world. That said, for live collaborations on specific documents, many colleagues prefer GoogleDocs. (I'm not always able to be online, and find GoogleDocs' interface a bit annoying, so still default to Dropbox, myself.)
My Portable Harddrive
Use Cases and Deployment Scope
I have been using Dropbox for years. It provides a reliable, secure data repository for client files that I can access anywhere, which means I don't have to worry about whether I am using my desktop, laptop, or iPad. It's also the ideal way to share content with collaborators.
I find myself storing critical material on Dropbox rather than my hard drive. I have lost too much data over the years from hardware failures and I know my data is safe with Dropbox.
Pros
- Access data from any location
- Secure backup
- Content sharing
- File transfers
Cons
- Data search and sort
- Desktop interface or app (beyond file finder)
- Secure data archive to store data no longer needed
- File version controls
Likelihood to Recommend
I tend to use Dropbox as an external hard drive without issues.
I have worked with clients to share files and content, which can be more efficient than using Google docs or sharing files via email.
I have also used Dropbox to store data in transit, that I am moving from one machine to another. It works but is slow and less effectice.
Great Product For File Storage
Use Cases and Deployment Scope
We use Dropbox to store photos from job sites that we work on so we can have the photos organized by location and send them off to the appropriate customers as completion photo evidence.
Pros
- Organize Files
- Compress files to be able to send to customers
- Store files for future reference
Cons
- Larger Storage
- Turn pictures into smaller file sizes to send to customer via email
- Create links easier
Likelihood to Recommend
Relatively easy to use for our purposes
