What is Elassandra?

Elassandra is a distributed database and search platform that embeds OpenSearch within Apache Cassandra. Each cluster node provides both Cassandra data storage and OpenSearch indexing and search, allowing applications to manage operational data and search indexes within the same distributed architecture. Elassandra maps Cassandra tables and columns to OpenSearch indexes and supports full-text search, filtering, and aggregations through OpenSearch APIs. Applications can also execute search requests through Cassandra Query Language (CQL). Additional capabilities include bidirectional schema mapping, partitioned indexes, multi-datacenter configuration, backup and recovery, and integration with OpenSearch Dashboards and Apache Spark. Elassandra can be installed through system packages or deployed using Docker and Kubernetes Helm charts. It is intended for teams that need Cassandra’s wide-column data model together with distributed search capabilities.
