What is EmpowerID?

EmpowerID is an Identity Governance and Administration (IGA) platform for governing enterprise identities, access rights, lifecycle processes, and access-related evidence across cloud, on-premises, and hybrid environments. Its Identity Fabric connects people, machines, and AI agents with enterprise directories, applications, APIs, identity providers, and governance systems.

Identity Governance Capabilities
  • Identity lifecycle management: Supports identity lifecycle workflows, access requests, role management, fulfillment, certifications, and separation-of-duties (SoD) controls.
  • Access requests and approvals: Organizations can define request and approval processes for application access, roles, and entitlements. Approved changes can be fulfilled across connected systems such as directories, SaaS applications, enterprise resource planning systems, and identity platforms.
  • Access certification: Teams can run review and certification campaigns to verify that users retain appropriate access and that access decisions are documented.
  • Role and policy governance: EmpowerID manages roles, access policies, SoD conflicts, and access-control decisions across hybrid environments. It can coexist with existing identity providers, IGA platforms, SAP GRC, ServiceNow, portals, and APIs.
  • Evidence and auditability: The platform records authorization decisions, approval context, dispatched actions, and observed outcomes where connected systems support verification.

Agent Governance and Governed Execution
EmpowerID extends identity-governance functions to AI agents and machine identities.
  • Agent discovery: Organizations can inventory AI agents, associate them with owners and declared purposes, and identify the systems they can access.
  • Mission-bound authorization: The platform evaluates a proposed action in context—including the mission, actor, target, requested action, and required assurance level—and can permit, require additional assurance, or deny execution.
  • Credentials without custody: The vendor describes a model in which agents can execute approved actions without receiving reusable destination-system credentials. The authorization boundary executes the approved action while keeping credentials within the destination or governed boundary.
  • Governed execution: Agent actions can be dispatched through controlled paths and associated with evidence records for the authorization decision, assurance, execution, and outcome.

This functionality focuses on controlling consequential actions taken by agents; it is distinct from merely monitoring model behavior or maintaining AI-policy documentation.

Deployment and Integration
  • EmpowerID can be deployed as software as a service (SaaS), in a customer data center, private cloud, public cloud, or sovereign-cloud environment. The vendor states that deployments use dedicated single-tenant environments and allow customers to select the deployment location.
  • The Identity Fabric connects with directories, SaaS applications, cloud environments, enterprise resource planning systems, APIs, identity providers, and existing governance tools. This coexistence model allows organizations to adopt EmpowerID as their primary IGA system or use it to extend existing identity architecture.

Security and Standards
EmpowerID states that it maintains SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certifications and conforms with OpenID AuthZEN 1.0. Organizations should confirm the applicable deployment architecture, integration coverage, certification scope, and control requirements during procurement.

Audience & Use Cases
EmpowerID is intended for identity and access management teams, security teams, compliance teams, IT operations teams, and organizations introducing AI agents into regulated or high-impact workflows.

Typical use cases include:
  • Identity lifecycle management and access provisioning.
  • Employee onboarding, role changes, and offboarding.
  • Access-request, approval, and entitlement-certification workflows.
  • Separation-of-duties review and mitigation.
  • Hybrid identity governance across directories, SaaS, ERP, and cloud systems.
  • AI-agent inventory, ownership assignment, and reachable-system assessment.
  • Contextual authorization, assurance checks, and evidence collection for agent actions.
