Junos OS - Not as popular, but very comparable to its competitors
Use Cases and Deployment Scope
We use Juniper gear as edge routers on the customer premise networks. It is not used by whole organization and is used only by access network teams. It helps to peer with customers (BGP or MPLS) depending on the nature of circuit customer has purchased and share routing tables on edge.
Pros
- BGP auto-peering
- Juniper ATP cloud for threat profiling
- Segment Routing algorithms allows customization
Cons
- GUI has come a long way, but can be improved
- SDN features
- Training, documentations and online discussion forums can be improved.
Likelihood to Recommend
Juniper Operating systems are well suited for distribution and edge networks. When we evaluated them for a proposal to core networks we decided to go with other vendors, as the processing capacity of core routers was lower. Typical environments Junos OS has fit in our organization are enterprise, customer edge, distribution networks.
