Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Linux Mint for several special use cases. In general, it provides fast, stable, inexpensive solutions to problems that would otherwise need expensive, cumbersome software. I would rather use Linux Mint then start new relationships with vendors that I would then have to manage them and their software while paying a premium.

Pros

  • Effieciency
  • Stability
  • Scripting
  • Low cost solutions

Cons

  • some more User Interfaces - like for services

Likelihood to Recommend

Linux Mint is a great, stable product when you need an OS and software to "just work". I use it for file servers, docker, scripting, air-gapped backups, email notifications and more. Simple, inexpensive and stable. That's how software should be, and that's what Mint delivers on.

The main thing holding Mint and other Linux distros back is the corporate walls that have been built shutting everything out except Microsoft. If companies would start supporting Linux better with their hardware and software we could and would ditch Microsoft in a heartbeat. but, alas, Microsoft has a stranglehold on businesses.

Linux Mint - Good OS for Work

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Linux Mint to manage Raspberry Pi images for production. We mount the images with the mount tool and then update our software packages.

In addition we use Linux Mint for other SBC development. We install toolchains and cross compilers to test our software in those SBC.

Overall the GUI is pleasant and easy to manage, allowing us to focus more on the problem to solve than to the OS configuration.

We run it in a virtual machine and the performances are good

Pros

  • terminal
  • file management
  • OS and software updates

Cons

  • nothing

Likelihood to Recommend

The OS is very pleasant to use and it allows to quicly get on the problem instead of spending time configuring the OS.

The updates are done in a successful way and do not broke the OS, thanks to the APT packaging system.

The terminal and file management is really easy to use if you are accustomed on Windows OS.
