What is MailTester?

MailTester is a tool designed to test the quality of newsletters and emails, as well as check for spam filters and deliverability issues. It is suitable for businesses of any size and caters to a wide range of professions and industries, including email marketers, newsletter creators, digital marketing agencies, small businesses, and freelancers.

Key Features

Test the Spammyness of your Emails: According to the vendor, MailTester allows users to send their emails to a randomly generated email address. It provides a detailed report on message configuration, mail server settings, and sending IP. Additionally, it provides a spam score to evaluate the likelihood of the email being marked as spam.

Perfect Score, But Still in Spam!: The vendor explains that even if an email receives a perfect score on MailTester, it may still end up in the recipient's spam folder. This is due to the different ways in which spam filters work and the impact of user preferences.

What's a perfect score?: According to the vendor, MailTester encourages users to aim for a perfect score of 10/10. It offers 5 different drawings to incentivize users to achieve this goal.

My Emails Are Neither in the Inbox nor in Spam: According to the vendor, if emails are neither in the inbox nor in the spam folder, it could be due to the server being blacklisted. MailTester suggests changing the sending method in such cases.

What's SpamAssassin?: According to the vendor, MailTester uses a vanilla installation of SpamAssassin, a widely used open-source spam filter. It mentions that MailTester uses reversed scoring, where a positive score is good and a negative score is bad. The vendor also acknowledges the existence of other spam filters.

Your Privacy Is Precious: The vendor assures users that MailTester does not share, resell, or disclose their emails or addresses to anyone. Test results are not crawled by search engine robots or spammers. Additionally, test results and emails are automatically deleted from MailTester servers after 7 days (or 30 days for registered users). User data is only used to create averages and anonymous statistics.

Do you have an API?: According to the vendor, MailTester offers an iframe and a JSON API for integration with paid plans. Users are encouraged to get in touch for more information.

Guides to Edit Your SPF Record: The vendor provides guides for editing the Sender Policy Framework (SPF) record of different domain registrars and hosting providers. SPF helps recipients determine if an email is a scam or not.

Check your SPF and DKIM keys: According to the vendor, MailTester allows users to check if their domain has SPF and DKIM email signatures set up and valid. These signatures are effective against spoofing, phishing, or impersonation. Spam filters automatically check these signatures to verify the authenticity of emails.
