Don't get caught up in dead technology
Our application that we sell uses Silverlight as its web front end. That application is core to our business. The organization sells, deploys, and maintains this application. We have been developing in Silverlight for almost 10 years at this point and it is now deprecated
- Provided features not regularly avaible in I.E
- No longer being supported
- No upkeep with ria services
- Be nice to work in a modern browser
- Web based
- Out of browser support
- Plugin with 3rd parties such as telerik
- Negative that the application is no longer supported
- Impact to delivery of new features
- Customer dissatisfaction

We picked silverlight 10 years ago because html 5 wasn't feature rich yet. We thought Microsoft was going to support for longer. Unfortunately html 5 became feature rich and silverlight got deprecated. At the time it provided features a normal browser could not

Microsoft Silverlight - Ready to ship anywhere!
We use Microsoft Silverlight company-wide. The product is necessary for our UPS shipping portal. With multiple locations and 200+ remote users, UPS is critical to getting company equipment to where it needs to go and we couldn't print our labels or use the portal without Microsoft Silverlight.

- No support for the popular H.264 video codec
- Another effort to promote proprietary technology rather than open standards
- Silverlight is a browser-only solution
- Allows us to print shipping labels with ease, saving time and money!
- Allows users to navigate the UPS shipping campus.
- Due to shipping restrictions in some areas, having options available to ship, made possible by Silverlight, is crucial!
Microsoft Silverlight allows more adaptability and it integrates well with our products across the company. Adobe Flash crashes or doesn't work with our shipping campus.

Why we want Silverlight back
Silverlight is used in several units in my company. It's one of the best tools when you need to quickly prepare a web application. There's no need to use JavaScript anymore for client side actions/visualizations. The reason why it's not more popular is that Microsoft decided to discontinue Silverlight and is only supporting it until 2020.

There's no need to connect ASP.NET with JavaScript to get what they both can give us. Without Silverlight we always needed to merge sync and async technologies in order to achieve a nice and responsive GUI in web applications. We can only hope that Microsoft will go back to Silverlight instead of HTML 5 and JavaScript.

We currently use Microsoft Silverlight for our Mediasite website. Mediasite is an online portal to upload recorded lectures for medical students. It enhances video playback and optimizes the streaming which was a very problematic issue with our previous software. Currently it is only used on campus and within the medical school and not clinical sites.
