  • Wide variety of modern network operating system choices
  • Based on Open Ethernet platform
  • low Capex
  • Interoperability with other vendors
  • Bugs
Works well if you use core networking functionality

Does not work well in a multi-vendor setup.
  • Open Ethernet based protocols and platform
  • Support Cumulus Operating System
  • Lower cost than Cisco or Juniper switches
  • Overall seamless integration into the datacenter
  • Better cost per port so higher ROI
Broadcom is quicker is rolling out newer chipset and hardware. But NVIDIA Mellanox has better system integration due to its purchase of Cumulus OS.

Mellanox Switches are used in our company as network backbone switches in combination with Cumulus OS across the complete organization. Also as a high-performance Networking platform for our Hyperconverged Infrastructure based on Windows Server 2016. In Addition, we deployed Mellanox Switches at our customers especially as high-performance infrastructure for HCI
  • open platform for use with e.g. Cumulus OS
  • cost effective
  • excellent support
  • faster shipping of switches
Well suited:
HCI Infrastructure as a high-performance platform for storage traffic
TOR or Network Backbone

Less appropriate:
Client Access switches
  • great possiblitiy for us to consult our customers in sizing and deployment of the switches
Mellanox have more competitive pricing. Mellanox is an open System which Supports Cumulus OS
