What is Opera?
Opera is a Chromium-based web browser for desktop and mobile devices. Although it is primarily positioned as a personal browser, several features support research, communication, and day-to-day knowledge work.
Workspaces separate tabs into different projects or contexts, while Tab Islands automatically group related pages and can be renamed, collapsed, or moved between workspaces. Vertical tabs, tab search, and Split Screen help users manage larger browsing sessions and compare pages without opening separate windows.
Opera AI is integrated into the browser and can use the current page or a group of tabs as context. It can summarize and compare webpages, analyze uploaded PDFs, spreadsheets, and documents, translate selected text, and provide links to supporting sources. The browser sidebar provides access to services including Slack, Gmail, Google Calendar, WhatsApp, and other messaging applications without requiring users to switch between separate windows.
Opera Sync can synchronize selected bookmarks, open tabs, browsing history, passwords, and Speed Dial entries between signed-in devices. Flow provides encrypted sharing of files, links, images, and notes between connected Opera installations without requiring an account. Additional business-oriented utilities include webpage capture, file-upload shortcuts, unit and currency conversion, and battery-saving controls.
Privacy features include a built-in ad and tracker blocker and a browser-integrated VPN with automatic activation options for public networks. Opera also offers a separate VPN Pro subscription.
Opera’s business value is primarily at the individual-user level. Current product materials do not present it as a dedicated enterprise browser with a centralized administration console, managed deployment, organization-wide policy enforcement, data-loss prevention, or workforce access controls.
