Profound Firsthand Data for Zero Click Search

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Profound to track our visibility across the most popular LLM platforms. I also track our citation share, and use the citation share function to target third-party platforms to collaborate with or forum discussions that will be the most impactful to contribute to for the business. Really, Profound helps me gather data and prioritize my initiatives as a Content Engineer based on that data. The product addresses a lack of easily available insights about how our brand/domain is being seen by users in LLM responses and citations. As the only Content Marketer at my company, being able to prioritize based on impact is key.

Pros

  • Firsthand data collection & analysis
  • Training/providing resources on how to grow in AI search
  • Customer support
  • Product improvement & iterations

Cons

  • Targeting prompt tracking and selection to ensure it's aligned with business goals
  • Connecting data analytics to business impact (clicks to website, revenue from AI referral traffic, etc).
  • Contract negotiations

Return on Investment

  • Profound has allowed us to quantify the citation share of new content on a URL by URL basis
  • Profound has allowed us to identify our top competitors when it comes to AI search, and differentiate our strategy from theirs
  • Profound has provided us with prompt volume, which helps us prioritize opportunities for impact

Powerful AEO Platform

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

With the quick growth of AI search, and constant requests from executives about how we don't appear, we selected Profound to help us with AEO. We're using Profound to track our AI citations, identify gaps and opportunities, generate content to address those gaps, and monitor competitors. We have many products, and started our engagement focused on 2 of them.

Pros

  • Prompt monitoring and analysis
  • Agents to help create new and refresh existing content for AI search
  • Analytics to monitor human vs bot traffic, bot visibility by page
  • Visibility vs competitors, and help to close the gaps due to missing content

Cons

  • More guidance on what to action on, as the amount of data is overwhelming. For a team with limited resources, we struggle to know what to focus on and how to scale quickly
  • Better in-product help - this product evolves so quickly, they can't create training videos to keep up, and not every section has any info on what the page/data is showing

Return on Investment

  • Can't measure ROI at this point, but definitely not positive. We have visibility to how we are in AI search, and what we need to do to improve, but haven't been able to scale to make any measurable impact in return

Usability

Valuable to understand AI search performance but UX could be improved

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use it to track AI search visibility for our landing pages and vendor search content. We use this alongside SEO metrics from Google Search Console and SEMrush.

This primary use case for this is fixing the blind spot on AI search performance. As more and more users start their wedding planning on AI chat instead of Google, we need to make sure we know how we are showing up in LLM responses so we can understand if our work to improve our performance is working or not

Pros

  • Competitor visibility into the same queries. When you run a topic query, you can see how other competitors are performing for the same topic. This helps you narrow in on the sorts of things that are working well for a topic and identify areas of improvement
  • Profound gives content-level attribution which means it shows which specific sections of a page are getting cited by LLMs, which gives greater granularity into what types of content is working well
  • Cross-engine comparisons. You are able to see performance across all major LLMs in one view

Cons

  • Figuring out how to do accomplish a certain task is not immediately intuitive. I've actually had to query LLMs to ask how to do certain things like running topic queries or creating specific dashboards. So overall UX improvements
  • There is no native way to set up an AB test. We've had to improvise our own tagging convention to track deltas over time rather than a built-in tool
  • The reporting tools are fairly limited still. We've had to export the raw data and analyze in Excel for reports

Return on Investment

  • Profound has shifted AEO performance from an untracked blind spot to something we can more accurately measure and improve upon.

Profound is a great AEO tool if that's what you need.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We wanted to stay on top of how AI may impact our business marketing so we partnered with Profound to track and improve our brand visibility. We were already familiar with SEO but had pretty small visibility in our market. We hoped that Profound would be a good way to get a head start on something that could boost our market share.

Pros

  • You are assigned an account manager who you can meet with at whatever pace you want. Those check ins are great for having a personalized strategy and overview of the platform and any updates they make.
  • Constantly developing new features and asks if we have any ideas that we can implement that would be helpful to our business.
  • Intuitive user interface that makes it easy to navigate your data.

Cons

  • They did not yet allow to connect your website if it was on webflow, which really hindered the data we had.
  • Being able to track if specific items we did had any impact on our visibility, such as a specific article we wrote and see clearly how much that had any influence on our business. It was hard for us to figure all that out.

Return on Investment

  • It gave us a good strategy on what we need to do to get more market visibility, we grew by about 5%
