What is Shepit?

Shepit converts speech to text in any app on a Mac. It has no separate dictation window and no copy-and-paste step. The user holds a hotkey, speaks, and releases it, and the text appears at the cursor in apps such as editors, browsers, Slack, terminals, email, Notion, integrated development environments (IDEs), and internal tools.

The speech is transcribed and then cleaned up automatically: filler words, false starts, and repeated phrases are removed and punctuation is corrected, so the result reads as if it had been typed. Shepit supports around 100 languages, so users can dictate in the language they think in.

Setup consists of dragging the app to Applications, signing in with Google, and granting Microphone and Accessibility permissions. The vendor states that this takes under a minute. Every plan includes all features, and plans differ only in minutes per month. The Free plan provides 30 minutes a month and requires no card. A Teams / Enterprise plan is available on request through the vendor's contact page.

Shepit requires a Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later) running macOS 26 or later.

Shepit is made by Rebbix.
