SolarWinds SQL Sentry is designed to help data professionals optimize SQL Server database performance in physical, virtual, and cloud environments. SQL Sentry delivers metrics to help users find and fix database performance problems and provides scalability, boasting demonstrated success monitoring 800+ SQL Server instances with one monitoring database.
With SQL Sentry, the user can monitor:

This product allows us to monitor our SQL in greater detail than most other providers.

We reviewed a number of equivalent products and SQL Sentry came out on top predominantly for its ease of use, the way it is layed out (visually draws you in). The features (which other products had as well) were a big draw, the ability to be able to look back through time at what the server was doing was the key feature we needed to be able to investigate issues that would happen out of hours. As soon as we got this software in we were able to resolve our over night blocking issues in no time at all.
The fact they have such a great support team and plenty of return on investment sessions just sets them apart.

The most important factor was vendor support for the product. You can learn a new interface, leading products offer the same feature and pricing is negotiable. You are completely dependent on the vendor to resolve bugs for this mission critical softeware.

The usability really sold us on SQL Sentry here. We also really liked the alerts built-in. We had a ton of in-house health checks and maintaining those could get tricky but the monitoring/alerting with SQL Sentry helps a ton.

The most important factor was the chain feature. When we were evaluating the product, we compared it to other DBA support tools, the monitoring features were very similar to many others on the market. It was the only tool that allowed us to rework complicated and fragile SSIS packages that were failing regularly.

The product features are top of class, and whilst there are other products from other large vendors available, SentryOne stood out from the pack by a very long way. This in turn was supported by the price, product usability during testing and the reputation of multiple employees within the SQL Server community.

i have used many other tools in this space(Idera and Quest to name a couple). I felt that the user experience of how the information was presented was far superior to both of those tools. In addition, the time it takes to get the information I need was much shorter with SQL Sentry.

The one thing that lead me to SQL Sentry was when I met the sales team at a PASS conference. They listened to my concerns and asked me what our main issues we were trying to resolve. They then proceeded to walk me through their product and show me how I could resolve all the issues I outlined in SQL Sentry. It started a relationship between the sale team and myself that I still interact with today, 5+ years later.

Several people on our team have actually had bad experiences with SQL Sentry in the past. But we decided to give them a shot after learning of the rewrite of the software. After a POC we were very impressed with it and it did better in all of our testing than our current products and the several other products we POC'd

When I first bought sql Sentry over 10yrs ago I was doing POCs with various tools and this one stood out for ease of use. See a spike in cpu, right click and you know instantly what was running at the time
