SolarWinds SQL Sentry is designed to help data professionals optimize SQL Server database performance in physical, virtual, and cloud environments. SQL Sentry delivers metrics to help users find and fix database performance problems and provides scalability, boasting demonstrated success monitoring 800+ SQL Server instances with one monitoring database.

With SQL Sentry, the user can monitor:

The most important factor was vendor support for the product. You can learn a new interface, leading products offer the same feature and pricing is negotiable. You are completely dependent on the vendor to resolve bugs for this mission critical softeware.

The one thing that lead me to SQL Sentry was when I met the sales team at a PASS conference. They listened to my concerns and asked me what our main issues we were trying to resolve. They then proceeded to walk me through their product and show me how I could resolve all the issues I outlined in SQL Sentry. It started a relationship between the sale team and myself that I still interact with today, 5+ years later.

The most important factor was the chain feature. When we were evaluating the product, we compared it to other DBA support tools, the monitoring features were very similar to many others on the market. It was the only tool that allowed us to rework complicated and fragile SSIS packages that were failing regularly.
