SQL Sentry delivers metrics to help users find and fix database performance problems and provides scalability, boasting demonstrated success monitoring 800+ SQL Server instances with one monitoring database.

We demoed each product against a few instances for a month. We made our final decision on price. I am not saying price is not a major factor but I should have spent more time investigating the support model and checking sites like Trust Radius.

Other products now allow for reasonably priced job management. This would make them more competitive and we would probably set up a test environment to run all of those products competitively. Ideras tools in particular are now more worth considering. However, familiarity and trust in the existing product is keeping us on the platform.

I wouldn't change a thing. Our evaluation process is very thorough. We look at the overall value to our organization through live trials. We will continue to follow this process to land at the best tool that meets our needs. Like many organizations, we constantly look at available technology. As people, products and technology change, we have found this approach to be the best. Today that process keeps us on SQL Sentry.

Since I already had a tool to compare against that I was trying to replace and was familiar with other monitoring tools, I might have requested a trial version prior to meeting sales team to address more specific requirements.
