What is StatusCake?
StatusCake is a Website Monitoring platform for external websites, application programming interfaces (APIs), domains, Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificates, page performance, and servers. StatusCake states that it supports more than 220,000 customers, including teams at Audi, Mastercard, and Zendesk. The service has operated since 2012 and is run from the United Kingdom by TrafficCake Limited.
What StatusCake monitors
StatusCake combines external availability and performance checks with domain, certificate, and server monitoring.
- Uptime monitoring: Tests websites and API endpoints with HTTP, HTTPS, TCP, DNS, SMTP, SSH, ping, and push checks from global test locations.
- Page-speed monitoring: Tracks page-load performance over time from multiple locations and can alert on configured performance thresholds.
- SSL monitoring: Checks certificate validity, expiry, revocation status, chain integrity, protocol and cipher settings, and mixed-content issues.
- Domain monitoring: Tracks expiry dates, Domain Name System (DNS) changes, registrar changes, and domain-blacklist status.
- Server monitoring: Uses an installed agent to report CPU, memory, disk, and network metrics. This provides an IT Infrastructure Monitoring function alongside external website checks.
- Public status pages: StatusCake Pages can publish uptime information for monitored services, including customer-facing reporting pages.
An expired certificate or lapsed domain registration can make a service unavailable even when its underlying server is running. StatusCake monitors these dependencies separately from uptime checks.
Reducing false positives
StatusCake allows users to configure confirmation servers before recording a check as failed. Confirmations run from additional test servers in the selected region, helping teams distinguish persistent availability failures from transient location-specific faults.
Alerting and integrations
Alerts can be delivered through email, short message service (SMS), webhooks, and integrations including Slack, Microsoft Teams, PagerDuty, Telegram, and Zapier. Paid plans include monthly SMS credits.
Automation and administration
A documented REST API supports programmatic creation, update, and removal of monitors. Sub-accounts and team-member access support delegated administration, while Business plans include audit logging. White-label reporting is available for agencies and managed service providers.
Compliance and vendor assessment
StatusCake provides documentation for vendor-risk and information-security assessments, including for financial entities assessing obligations under the Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA), Regulation (EU) 2022/2554. Enterprise agreements can include service-level agreements (SLAs) and periodic account reviews.
