Pros
Easy to Implement and Compatible with PostgreSQL: Users have found Supabase to be easy to implement into any project and appreciate its compatibility with PostgreSQL as the database. Several reviewers have mentioned that this compatibility allows them to leverage the power and reliability of PostgreSQL for their projects.
Predictable Pricing Model: Many users have praised Supabase's generous pricing, particularly for enthusiasts and hobbyists. They mention that Supabase offers an amazing suite of tools without the fear of surprise bills at the end of the month. This predictable pricing model provides peace of mind for users.
Real-time Subscriptions: Several reviewers highlight the fast real-time subscriptions provided by Supabase, which enable developers to build applications with seamless real-time updates. This feature can be beneficial for applications that require real-time data synchronization.
We used Supabase to get a backend up quickly for multiple different full-stack projects in development, and continued using Supabase in production. It gave us a way to have lots of features out of the box for a postgresql database, and scalability was clear.
Pros
Getting up and running quickly and cheaply
Edge functions
Flexibility with login options
Data GUI
Settings GUI
Cons
The policies preventing turning off a server are nonsense
On a lower pricing tier, reaching a usage limit can prevent setting modification to go back under that usage limit
It's still in beta, so use in production can be problematic at times
Likelihood to Recommend
Supabase can be used for strong custom backends for games and full-stack web applications. Self-hosting is not as great of an option just yet, and Supabase is still being developed actively so there are still legitimate problems that can be encountered, but this project seems to be going in a positive direction and has been useful for us.
