We used Veeam Data Platform to back up our Linux servers. Windows were also being done, but not by my department. We are backing up normal webservers, scientific servers, and database servers. We had a wide variety of use levels on the servers. Some servers did not have much use, why some of our database servers where under heavy loads with constant writes to the database.
Pros
Connecting to new servers worked well
Web servers backed up with no issues
Restores were great
Cons
Heavy databases could not get a good backup and repeatedly failed
Couldn't get details about the Linux clients
Could not verify compression/dedup
Likelihood to Recommend
For Windows, it is a great option. Just loaded it and get detected by the server. At that point you could forget about your backups.
For many Linux servers, it would work fine. The webservers and scientific servers backed up and restored with no problems.
Avoid databases with heavy load. We found this to be Veeam Data Platform's weak spot.
Standard VM, file share and SQL backups. we have many file shares, SQL databases and ProxMox / VMWare guests that need to be backed up on a regular basis.
Pros
Reliable Backup
Alerting
Resilience
Cons
I would like to see what files are actually being backed up in the alert logs
Likelihood to Recommend
Very easy to set up, screens are intuitive. Has many adapters to suite many use cases. Honestly it meets all of my business needs, so I don't have any scenarios that it does not take fit at this time.

Veeam allow us replicate and backup our data from several locations securely and safely to a secured location. This includes several different sources such as network storage appliances, network shares, virtual machines, as well as our router configurations. With the addition of encryption we can ensure that backups are secured and immutable.
Pros
VMware Appliance and VM Backup
Network Attached Server Backup
OneDrive Backups
Cons
Dedicated Appliance as opposed to Windows Installed Solution
Built in SMNP Router Config Backup Solution
Likelihood to Recommend
We use Veeam for backing up our Windows Servers and VMs as well as our VmWare Environment. It excels at creating solid immutable backups that we have stored in a 3-2-2-1 solution. We also have it replicating data to off site cold storage and it routinely cleans up the storage locations keeping the versions need. The OneDrive backup has allowed us to backup end user data and several times we have been able to restore from a Veeam backup when the Microsoft restore would not have been sufficient.

Cons

I find it easy to use and successful. We haven't had any problems so far. We are satisfied with the product. We are waiting for progress in security and AI development. More intensive development platforms are needed for this purpose. Changes in pricing policies would be more appropriate. We haven't experienced any problems with support either.
Veeam Data Platform addresses data protection, resilience, and recovery risks that directly impact business continuity, regulatory compliance, and operational stability. Fast, reliable backup and restore for mission‑critical systems.
Pros
Veeam Data Platform enables Full VM recovery.
Veeam’s Instant Recovery allows workloads to run directly from the backup repository while full restoration occurs in the background.
Veeam provides a single protection model across On‑prem VMware and Physical Servers.
Cons
Recovery workflows that require many manual steps.
Limited custom dashboards without add‑on reporting components.
Separate products/consoles for different cloud workloads.
Some restore operations feel “on‑prem adapted to cloud” rather than cloud‑optimized.

Our organization uses Veeam Data Platform to backup and restore VM's from Hyper-V failover cluster manager to both a local NAS appliance as well as Backblaze B2 cloud storage. With Veeam Data Platform we have reliable image level backups (that we can also restore at file level), but we can also choose any vendor for file storage (instead of having to have a brand-specific storage device or a brand-controlled cloud storage platform).
Pros
Hardware and cloud agnostic backup platform
Easy to restore at both image-level and file-level
Great Operating System compatibility
Cons
Backup error details can sometimes be difficult to find
Likelihood to Recommend
The reason we chose Veeam Data Platform, was our previous backup software did not support the latest Microsoft Operating System a month after it released and we wanted to use it. After looking at many different options, everyone recommended Veeam Data Platform as the best. Veeam Data Platform has been a great solution for our company.
The Veeam platform is used to back up the VMware infrastructure.A second copy is used to have copies on a second NAS. Full backups are also transferred to removable hard drives and disconnected from the network. The removable hard drives are rotated and stored in a fireproof safe. This protects company data with an offline copy.
Pros
Backup VMware infrastructure.
VM replication.
Granular file-level restore.
Cons
Lower cost.
Share CIFS backup more simple.
Better compact data.
Likelihood to Recommend
It is highly appropriate for companies with on-premise infrastructure with VMware or Hyper-V virtualization, a few physical servers, and NAS. Veeam Data Platform was created specifically to cover this type of perimeter with a single platform and a license that is portable across different workloads; It becomes less appropriate when the customer is looking for a fully SaaS solution, with no infrastructure to manage.

Financial losses due to outages: Every minute of server downtime costs money. Veeam enables instant recovery of a virtual machine (Instant VM Recovery), turning hours of waiting into minutes.
Cons
The main console (VBR) has remained largely unchanged for years, with a "legacy" (Windows-based) look and feel. As you add modules (Veeam ONE, Recovery Orchestrator), the experience becomes fragmented.
A complete and unified web-native console that no longer depends on installing an application on a Windows server for day-to-day administration.
A single pane of glass where you can manage the backup of a Kubernetes cluster as easily as that of a VMware virtual machine.

This is the ideal scenario if you need a "Hardened Repository" (Linux). Veeam blocks data deletion for a set period of time, so even if a hacker gains access to the administrator account, they cannot destroy your backups.

We have had great experience with backups. Process is easy, really easy to configure and restore when needed. There were times where some steps do take more and research when learning but overall user friendly. Would recommend helping reduction of CPU resources when back up jobs are in progress, sometimes slows things down.
