Windsurf

Windsurf (formerly Codeium) is an AI dev tool that is self-hosted for security, with features including rapid code autocomplete, in-editor AI chat assistant, repo natural language search, end-to-end data encryption.

Windsurf allows users to personalize the AI models locally by leveraging their private code repository. The platform provides relevant code suggestions based on the user's own code using personalized models that are never shared or leave the user's tenant. It boasts support for over 70 programming languages, making it suitable for developers working in various tech stacks. It is integrated with popular standalone IDEs, Jupyter and Colab notebooks.

In May of 2025, OpenAI agreed to buy Windsurf, the artificial intelligence-assisted coding tool, for roughly $3 billion, but later in July of 2025 Windsurf was acquired by Cognition AI Labs (or just "Cognition"), who are the developers of Devin, an AI software engineering tool.
