Cisco Catalyst IE3300 Rugged Series Switches Review
Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Catalyst IE3300 Rugged Series Switches
We have a lot of field devices that requires industrial ethernet infrastructure for just the extreme temperatures that we use out on the East Coast. We deploy these in a number of our LCP cabinets out in various spots in the field.
Pros
- We're extremely proud of the IE3300s. We actually put them up on the cranes as well and with all the movement of the cranes, they're very sturdy and durable. We have not had issues at all with them.
Cons
- We would love to see 10 gig ports as well as 10 gig uplinks. That's our biggest issue with that device.
- Just the scalability portion of it has just made it easier for us to add those modules versus buying more switches.
We actually just stood up our DNA center environment a month ago. We have not had a chance yet to add any switches to it.
We're currently not segmenting our network, but that is a future goal for us. Was not even made aware that the IE3300s could do that, so that's awesome.
I've used the IE4000s. Those were our signature IE switches and they were end of sale so we switched over to the IE3300s and we actually like those better because of the scalability.
