Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN

We use Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN to centralise configuration and to optimise specific applications across our WAN. It helps us roll out new sites with speed and agility and to perform hardware replacements easily.

Pros

  • Optimisation of applications

Cons

  • VAnaytics is great but the interface lacks
  • Measurable transport of data
  • Monitoring of transport interfaces
  • Configuration consistency
The interface is user friendly and intuitive. Onboarding new devices is very easy with a basic bootstrap configuration. The monitoring interfaces show actionable intelligence that can be useful for planning, design, and troubleshooting. With a flexible licensing model, we can expand at the pace we need to in order to unlock value as needed.
Both products offer similar features. Cisco SD-WAN tends to focus more on the networking side and Palo Alto focuses more on the security features of Cisco SD-WAN. Both are important and the products do line up with each other in features and functionality. That said, Cisco SD-WAN offers more throughput for a better price point.

When trying to optimize which transport should be used for a specific application, Cisco SD-WAN can help automatically make that decision. Also, Cisco SD-WAN provides an interface where all configuration can be centrally controlled, helping keep auditable and consistent configurations. Cisco SD-WAN also makes it easier to onboard new hardware devices by providing a central repository for all base configuration.
