Overall Satisfaction with DraftSight
I am a landscape architect and am the one who uses DraftSight. It provides an excellent and cost effective way to use my CAD skills without having to use AutoCAD, which is the platform I learned on. The commands and functions are very similar and the file extensions work with other third party software.
Pros
- I have been able to bring in terrain PDF images to do site plan work over.
- I have been able to incorporate images to better explain use of design materials.
- I have been able to easily share PDF versions of drawings with colleagues and clients.
Cons
- The need to remember the DS commands vs. the ones I remember from AutoCAD.
- Occasions of errors during a drawing session, where the program shuts down.
- Definitely reduced cost.
- Ease of learning curve to get productive.
- File extensions are seamless with other CAD software I have used and can open old drawings easily.
I have not evaluated other similar products.
