Overall Satisfaction with F5 Distributed Cloud WAF (Web Application Firewall)

Protect our portals as well as APIs. XC WAF is the external access point for clients and we want to make sure clean requests make it to our environment

Pros

  • Simple to build a WAF policy
  • Simple UI
  • Very scalable

Cons

  • Maintaining a policy is challenging (not a simple process to tune policies)
  • WAF on BigIP has a lot more customization options
  • TBD, but we expect an improved security posture given policies are auto tuned based on all customers traffic rather then our internal traffic only

Super complex environments where the likelihood is false positives is high can make things challenging. A more simplified environment with cleaner data (so bad data is easier to spot) are more suitable
