Overall Satisfaction with GitHub Copilot

Development teams in our organization use GitHub Copilot to improve productivity while working on .NET applications in the Visual Studio IDE. Before using GitHub Copilot, our developers depended on Google searches, AI tools, and developer forums to get help with development tasks. With GitHub Copilot now integrated into Visual Studio, they have a one-stop solution that eases their development process.

Pros

  • Code Completions.
  • Fixing Bugs in Code.
  • Optimizing Code.

Cons

  • Chat responses can be improved.
  • Accuracy needs improvement.
  • Ease of Use can be made better.
  • Faster Development Time.
  • Learning Curve is Reduced.
  • Lowered Development Costs.
I feel that GitHub Copilot's overall usability is good due to its tight integration with Visual Studio and the workspace. However, developers expect greater ease of use, as there is a learning curve to realize productivity gains with the tool fully. I think there is room for improvement in GitHub Copilot's UI integration within Visual Studio.
ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Grok are AI tools that developers use to boost productivity. However, GitHub Copilot outperforms them due to its tight integration with Visual Studio. GitHub Copilot can analyze all the code in your workspace and provide contextual assistance within your developing solution, allowing you to stay inside the IDE instead of seeking help elsewhere.

Do you think GitHub Copilot delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with GitHub Copilot's feature set?

Yes

Did GitHub Copilot live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of GitHub Copilot go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy GitHub Copilot again?

Yes

GitHub Copilot is beneficial when writing .NET code and needing on-the-spot assistance with development tasks such as code suggestions, bug fixing, and code optimization. It is also helpful when you are new to a technology and want to learn and use it faster. However, it might not be appropriate where you are dependent on GitHub Copilot. You can use it for assistance, but not as a replacement for your understanding and logic.
