IBM Security Guardium is used for audit compliance, monitoring of critical database activity, and identifying anomalous activity - whether from broken applications, scanners, unexpected processes, or actual malicious activity.
Pros
- Monitors all database activity, including local privileged traffic.
- Powerful reporting logic to extract the exact information one needs.
- Makes it easier to separate duties of monitoring/auditing from DBAs.
- Vulnerability assessments.
Cons
- threat detection needs improvement the false positives are so far off it's not usable
- GI has trouble returning results once it gets a lot of data, especially for failed logins.
- IBM Security Guardium makes passing audits much easier.
- IBM Security Guardium helps identify applications that are broken and putting undue load on databases with failed logins and failed sqls.
Yes, it improves our security posture by having visibility into the activity happening on monitored databases and by streamlining vulnerability assessment on databases/datasoources.

In my opinion, IBM Security Guardium is more accurate and powerful that the above, and more robust.
