Overall Satisfaction with Microsoft Defender for Cloud

We are a reseller, so we sell this product for our clients to be able to protect them from their security aspects. Most of it is basically to protect their identity on their servers, since we are a reseller for the service as well, it is a requirement for us to provide that as services.

Pros

  • Well, it catches the bad actors that we want them to and it allows us as an MSP to be able to action and respond to the threats. So that's what the clients take our service for.

Cons

  • I think a lot of it's around educational. If there is some architectural or product enhancements that Microsoft or the developers can reach out to the partners that would help. Right now we find out once we are playing around with it, that there are some of the enhancements that have come in, so that would be really good and will help as a reseller that we can then communicate to our partners as well.
  • Positive obviously provides the security side very well as compared to its competitors.
  • The negative is the price, right? It is a little expensive where the clients have to work this around in their budget. So overall, I think the positive of what this product brings kind of trumps what the negative is, but it all comes down to is how people see security, how from what lens, so I think that's where that would be the only negative I would say.
We do have a mix of all of them. We have some on-prem, majority is Azure Cloud, but we also have multi-cloud, so defender for cloud, obviously we predominantly use an on-prem and an Azure cloud, but we also have abilities to do AWS and Google Cloud and put injectors to ingest those logs. Not necessarily dependent for cloud, but we can do that for them as well.
It definitely reduces the number of threats. I won't be able to tell by how many it'll cut down and because it reduces the threats because of the intelligence and the backend AI built into it, it allows us to focus on actual threats and not worry about threats that might be false positive.
100%, yes. For the first part, from amount perspective, it'll be hard because obviously I don't know the pricing model for any third party because I only sell Microsoft, but 100% it reduces from what I've heard from the clients. I just don't have a dollar figure what that would be.
We were one of the first ones to deploy when Microsoft released it, so it's hard to compare, but what we hear from competitors, the fact that Microsoft can see the full ecosystem using this product makes it a lot better as compared to using a third party tool. So it's the ease of use for us as a service provider, but also for the client to see the full picture.

Do you think Microsoft Defender for Cloud delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Microsoft Defender for Cloud's feature set?

Yes

Did Microsoft Defender for Cloud live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Microsoft Defender for Cloud go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Microsoft Defender for Cloud again?

Yes

This is more suited for companies who really care about security out on the Microsoft journey and want to make sure that nothing is missed. For the companies that are not really interested in security and looking for a checkbox, obviously this product is not for them because it's more pricey and it does things that they're not looking for. A company that is very, very focused on security and specifically leveraging Microsoft, that's where it's best suited for

Using Microsoft Defender for Cloud

Just for the fact that there is always room to improve, but at the same time because it gives us that single picture across all Microsoft Stack, including the other dependent stack. I think it's the usability and tying into Sentinel is quite helpful as a reseller for us.
