Overall Satisfaction with Microsoft Windows

Windows 10 has been the most solid version we've had in place since NT 4.0. It's a shame we have to jump through numerous hoops to disable telemetry, sneak around the consumer interface to perform basic business setup, and fight tooth and nail with the company to implement group policy while it sneaks around, attempting to tempt end-users into upgrading, signing up for accounts and switching from established, working applications to buggy MS alternatives. Unfortunately, it's in place as a workstation OS. The applications we run demand it and there's just no easily getting around that. When there is an option to run Linux as a workstation or server, I jump at the opportunity. Poorly supported is still better than battling the OS to get work done.
  • Run applications that require Windows.
  • Run telemetry behind your back to earn more money at the expense of your privacy.
  • Change standards on a dime.
  • Privacy
  • Administrative interfaces
  • Easily implemented corporate control
  • Windows compatibility
  • End user familiarity
  • Widespread driver support
  • It's negatively affected IT productivity.
  • It's negatively affected end user productivity.
  • It's forced hardware upgrades across the board.
Because of its compatibility with third-party software requirements.

Did Microsoft Windows live up to sales and marketing promises?

No

Did implementation of Microsoft Windows go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Microsoft Windows again?

Yes

macOS, Ubuntu Linux, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
When your applications require Windows. Otherwise, I'd suggest running a Linux variant. The server will require less maintenance, your peer support will be better and in general, you can trust what's going on when you're not monitoring it.
