Overall Satisfaction with Oracle VM VirtualBox

Allows me to test software that I build in freelance projects.
  • Allows me to have multiple OS simultaneously.
  • Allows me to run old and not compatible applications with my current OS.
  • OS restoring capability.
  • Last time I checked, it didin't allow to have more than 1 virtual hard drive per machine.
  • usb 3.0 not supported.
  • Nested hardware virtualization is not supported.
  • For software development, it has a big and positive impact, since it accelerated the process of testing modules in several hardware scenarios at the time.
  • We have our own linux distros. Whenever we do a change, big or small, VirtualBox is a good option to test and detect bugs in a proper time.
  • Some of our own software is not compatible with the modern OS anymore. We are in a rebuilding process of all those old applications. VirtualBox allow us to see them in action, in order to make visual and graphic interface improvements to the current interface.
In the personal aspect, I choose VirtualBox because it is open source and powerfull at the same time, so it covers all my software implementation needs, for now.
I personally found it a little complicated to setup virtual box in linux. In the linux friendly distros, in theory, it is simple to setup and create virtual machines just as it is in windows, but I always faced issues that forced me to perform configurations to the OS in order to make it work.
