Overall Satisfaction with Portainer

I am using Portainer for managing and deploying containers mainly in Docker Swarm environments. It is super useful because I am able to create roles and permissions to services and environments, or any resource that I want. I find this useful because it allows me to dictate what user or users can or cannot access. Roles, permissions and team memberships can be automatically assigned using regex, which is also a nice feature and allows me to automate user provisioning. OAuth is well implemented, but has some holes in its documentation. Its API allows me to deploy containers using my CI/CD pipeline which simplifies my job. Overall Portainer is a very good solution for maintaining your stacks and services, as it has really well designed UI and it is pretty straightforward to use. You can get enterprise edition for free for clusters that have 5 or less servers, which should be enough for managing small or medium sized applications with ease.
  • Stacks or/and services management
  • User provisioning
  • Cluster overview
  • Logs accessibility
  • OAuth documentation could be more thorough
  • Cluster visualization, I'd like to see resources consumption visualized
  • Container management
  • User management
  • Cluster review
  • Easy to manage clusters - cost reduction
  • Easy to implement with CI/CD pipelines - time management
I am using Rancher in Kubernetes environments. It was really the first product I used with it and never really had time to test out how well Portainer behaves on Kubernetes. For the exact same thing - Docker Swarm management I used Swarmpit some time ago, but I like Portainer better, even though Swarmpit has better cluster visualization then Portainer.
Portainer 5 node business edition is really a big plus for me, since it has some really nice features.

Do you think Portainer delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Portainer's feature set?

Yes

Did Portainer live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Portainer go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Portainer again?

Yes

I am managing small and medium sized environments and Portainer works very well with those. I had some trouble finding some "options" in documentation, but Portainer community is pretty large and you can find almost anything on stackoverflow and github when needed.
At the moment I use it extensively with Docker Swarm environments and I don't have any problems with it at all. It is extremely stable and reliable, but I have to take some time and try using it with Kubernetes.
