Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform is our central automation tool for automating platform building.

Pros and Cons

Pros

IaC, being able to run off a repo is very nice
there's quite a lot of flexibility in how you use Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform
it doesn't require an agent and if you're running Linux, you have python already

Cons

being able to specify a branch for inventories as well as templates would be nice
sometimes the errors are not especially enlightening, perhaps because they are not passed up the stack well, but that is purely a guess

Return on Investment

Our platform is basically built and run with Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform, so more or less everything

Usability

Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform is complicated, but that makes the UI more impressive. I think there is some polishing that can be done at various levels, but overall it works very well.

I think terraform has some overlap with Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform and what determines which tool would be best will depend on how much can be pushed to the far left vs needing to be flexible or dynamic post deployment
