Overall Satisfaction with Retool

We leverage Retool to quickly build and manage a range of internal tools that support our business. Retool allows our teams—operations, customer success, and product—to access and act on data without requiring extensive engineering resources. Retool helps us reduce manual processes and consolidate data into a single interface that allows me and other teams to have the info we need at our fingertips.

Pros

  • Our teams often needed to pull information from multiple databases, which gave us visibility into all of it in one place.
  • Unified dashboards for real-time insights, reducing the need tapping engineering.
  • Internal dashboards that help our support team quickly resolve and fix issues by accessing all relevant data in one place.
  • Reduces operational overhead and manual data entry.

Cons

  • Some Retool apps can become slow to load or refresh.
  • When multiple team members work on the same app, changes can overwrite each other or break functionality.
  • The UI/UX is pretty basic.
  • Good ROI to give our teams the data they need.
  • Some dashboards can be slow so it can take more time/ bandwidth.
  • As apps grow more complex, troubleshooting logic or query dependencies can be time-consuming.
It's simple and easy to use once completely built out. Retool strikes a strong balance between power and speed, making it excellent for internal tooling. The few limitations (mostly around scale, design, and advanced workflows) keep it from being a perfect 10. Overall, would recommend, but you must have the team to set up, manage, and keep it "clean".
We selected Retool because it offers the best balance of usability and power compared to alternatives like Appsmith, ToolJet, and OutSystems. It allows us to build much faster, with broad integrations and strong enterprise features like permissions and environment management. Competing tools were either too limited, required more engineering effort. Overall, retool support has been decent too.

Do you think Retool delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with Retool's feature set?

Yes

Did Retool live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Retool go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy Retool again?

Yes

Works well in: Connecting directly to databases and APIs holding candidate data. Allows teams to easily drill into records from different data sources. Quick to build dashboards. It wouldn't work well without a team to actually get it set up. There is limited design/ branding, making it look very basic. Your team requires training because data can be overwritten easily. Having some knowledge with your whole team is super important, and if you work with contractors or non-tech people, this can be a huge issue.
