Overall Satisfaction with SAP Business Data Cloud

We use the business data cloud to solve our analytics requirements. We extract, transform, and model the data products in BDC and aim to implement AIML scenarios using Databricks in the business data cloud. We aim to avoid multiple systems in our analytics landscape and have one tool to solve our analytical requirements. For this reason, we aim to use BDC in our landscape and are excited to see this in action.

Pros

  • AIML use case handling.
  • Connection in SAP products.
  • Seamless planning.
  • Seamless integration with S4 HANA.

Cons

  • Fewer options compared to BW.
  • Connection to SAP tools like Service Cloud v2.
  • UX for users.
  • Avoid data bricks from Azure.
  • Use SAC seamlessly.
  • Use DSP seamlessly.
Low low-code environment is easy to use, good to have Python and SQL modelling features for new developers to use the tool. The insight feature is helpful. Databricks is very powerful when integrated with SAP Data Sphere. The BW modernization journey is made easy with BDC, which reduces effort and saves our investments made in the BW system.
Business data cloud is one tool that takes care of extraction, modelling, and AI ML use case in the landscape, whereas in other tools I was using multiple services to take care of each of the functions, hence BDC is a cool tool im action for our use cases. Low low-code option is better in BDC.

Do you think SAP Business Data Cloud delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with SAP Business Data Cloud's feature set?

Yes

Did SAP Business Data Cloud live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of SAP Business Data Cloud go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy SAP Business Data Cloud again?

Yes

It is best for scenarios where the source is primarily of sap, not necessarily only sap, but least sap is present in the landscape. There are improvement areas when we call this a replacement for bw, but not all the modelling features of bw are present in BDC. Yet to see the AIML use case in action, looking forward to seeing this in action.

Using SAP Business Data Cloud

150 - We are basically a manufacturing company, the BDC users are from multiple business functions like Logistics, sales, production, quality management, service, controlling and finance. We also have a team of IT developers who creates the reporting applications using BDC across the given business functions and a team of Process Experts who works on the process establishment and automation for reporting using BDC
20 - If i have to start from top down, we have three levels of team. Top most hierarchy consists of Solution Manager, Solution Architect and IT Development manager. The mid level consists of Domain leads per domain like sales, logistics ..etc and IT ops lead for operations. The last level consists of developers and support team members
  • Data product modelling
  • Data product sharing
  • AI ML use cases
  • Sap Databricks offering ways to handle AI /ML usecases
  • Seamless planning possibility
  • Bw modernisation with PCE has eased the migration activity
  • We are expecting to explore the GCP integration and use it for our benefits
  • We are expecting Sales and Service cloud integration to be seamless with BDC data products
  • Using Sap Datasphere as our new replacement for Sap BW
In the new analytics world, BDC has been a game changer for SAP Analytics. Extending the SAP data for the usage in Databricks, snow flake, GCP has opened new doors for Analytics . Shift from traditional data warehousing to Business Data fabric adapting to the change in the analytics world is the need of the hour and Sap has managed to pulled it off with BDC

Evaluating SAP Business Data Cloud and Competitors

  • Cloud Solutions
  • Scalability
  • Integration with Other Systems
Initial steps of BDC on boarding started with BW Modernisation. When SAP explained the advantages of the new product, we we’re fascinated. Securing the existing BW investments was the single most factor to motivate the purchase of BDC. The data product generator in PCE eased our lives of securing the bw investments made
Our initial evaluation process was total on the mode to save our bw investments by migrating to PCE, once we onboarded we understood the power of BDC in AI ML scenarios. If i do my evaluation now i would start with the AIML offerings of BDC by using the existing SAP data

SAP Business Data Cloud Implementation

I have done implementation of models in traditional bw and Using BDC. The integration of BDC with S4 hana for creating sap data products is seamless and reduces lot of implementation effort. The intelligent app feature is BDC also eases the implementation effort. If i have to compare the previous world with new BDC, implementation effort is largely saved
Yes - The phase one was BW modernisation where we moved the existing bw system on oracle to BW PCE. Phase two was the creation of data product using data product generator from PCE. Phase 3 was the integration of BDC with S4 systems and the integration of BW and S4 data and phase 4 is the consumption of data products for usage
Change management was a big part of the implementation and was well-handled
  • Creation of query data products
  • Moving the authorisation from bw to Sap datasphere
  • Switching the s4 from bw to bdc

Using SAP Business Data Cloud

ProsCons
Like to use
Relatively simple
Well integrated
Consistent
Quick to learn
Convenient
Feel confident using
Requires technical support
  • Data product sharing
  • Joule usage
  • Ux
  • Planning using sac
  • Not having ux to trigger actions as an user, i feel this is more of a read only tool for end user
  • Flexibility of data modelling is less compared to bw
