Overall Satisfaction with SAP Business Technology Platform

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We utilize the SAP Business Technology Platform for a few different products, but mostly its cloud ALM, the batch release hub (installing it currently), and things like Build Application Studio and Build Workzone (for Fiori). Usually its for developing cloud based solutions for our pharma clients.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Ease of login/structure (I like how subaccounts are arranged in the core infrastructure)
Security groups are easy to find
Integration with third party SAML/SSO services is reasonably simple

Cons

Creation of new security roles is a bit of a nightmare
Differences between subscriptions/instances/spaces are hard to understand
The fact that different products are hard locked to different aws/google regions is really annoying

Return on Investment

Decreased time to POC for certain apps
Better organization of Fiori building services
Redundancy and platform speed vs sap GUI/on prem

Usability

Usability is really good, unless, of course, you're trying to add entitlements that don't currently exist on the platform. The purchasing process for new services is REALLY annoying and requires a service rep half the time to troubleshoot exactly what you need. But again the usability of all "subscription" services on the platform is really plug and play, and helps us start and develop apps quicker.

Likelihood to Recommend

Its well suited for quickly installing a cloud based app from SAP. Way easier than using the SUM tool or maintenance planner for addons on SAP on premise (especially if its a subscription based service.). If you're using SAP Business Technology Platform for anything but the proper subscription products (instances, for example), you're going to struggle working out how the darn service keys work and which piece to buy and activate, etc.
