Overall Satisfaction with SAP S/4HANA Cloud

We use SAP S/4HANA Cloud for end to end business process across OTC, WM, IM, MM/PP, FICO, forecasting and reporting. We run our entire enterprise off of SAP best practices business process.

Pros

  • Variant configuration management of complex product catalogue with minimal staffing for data maintenance
  • Warehouse and inventory management
  • Production planning and forecasting
  • Material/procurement planning and forecasting

Cons

  • Datasphere is too expensive compared to other tools like Snowflake or Azure Databricks and a higher cost of support due to limited global expertise
  • FICO processes are behind in the public cloud and require either add on or additional subscriptions to be a full end to end financial package in a multi-country environment
  • IBP is far too complex to implement and maintain. There needs to be simplified forecasting prebuilt models and algorithms that can be setup and tweeked for smaller companies instead of needing to build full forecasting engine end to end
  • Improved efficiency

The UI is complex and hard to learn even with Fiori

In my experience, for smaller mid size companies SAP S/4HANA Cloud is too top configuration heavy and complex to be a lean and easily consumable product. In my opinion, it is 10 years behind the flexibility of an ERP like Microsoft Dynamics Manufacturing and F&O. I think the pricing structure is punitive to mid company markets and the customer service and support is hard to navigate for smaller IT and business organizations.
