Overall Satisfaction with TIBCO Spotfire

  • Spotfire is very simple to learn and to understand.
  • Spotfire is great to use as a tool to share patterns and trends and allow others less familiar with Spotfire to be able to simply search the data.
  • Data can be imported from external sources such as an ERP like SAP, Excel, or Access.
  • The simplicity of the software sometimes causes limitations to users not familiar with coding.
  • Online resources for learning and problem solving are sometimes few and far between.
Microsoft Access is a great data base software, but it doesn't have visualization capabilities like Spotfire. With Microsoft Excel there are not nearly the amount of filtering options. In Spotfire you can filter by selecting information from text boxes, or you can select data off the graphs. You can do this multiple times to drill down to what you want.
  • In-person training
The in person training was very good because it was hands on. It was very easy to follow along and there were many times when I got stuck but was able to get help. Normally my problems were nothing big, and were easily fixed. I prefer in person training over any other type.
Anyone with large quantities of data can make use of Spotfire. The data should be properly organized in a tabular format to begin with. Each line of data needs to have common columns or properties that define the data. I know many people in the oil and gas industry use Spotfire to track things ranging from work order compliance to well pressure and flow rate tracking.
