Overall Satisfaction with Spotfire

Used for exploratory data analysis prior to formal modeling. Also used for visualizing model results and simulations.
  • Allows exploration of multiple datasets that are connected in different ways.
  • Allows fast preliminary exploration of a dataset.
  • Allows for the exploration of the results of large simulations and experiments.
  • Hard to integrate with scripting languages, for example python, matlab, R.
  • Not clear how to handle in-memory and out-of-memory processing for large scale data.
  • Documentation could be better.
I find it more userfriendly and powerful than Tableau and Excel.
Tableau Desktop, BizNet Excel Suite, IBM Cognos
The software is powerful and user-friendly. The support could be better, both the account team and technical support.

Using Spotfire

provides layering, interaction, integration with remaining analysis, could be better if provided analytical calculations such as distance calculations, although I believe these are provided in the premium product.

It was very long, and was not segmented very well.
Yes [the product was easy to learn without training]. I did have a Spotfire consultant help me though. Some of the advanced visualizations were harder to learn how to configure.
