ULS Review
Overall Satisfaction with Unique Learning System
I teach a self-contained class with 7 students with autism. I use the various levels of Unique Learning System as my primary curriculum for 6 of those students. One accesses the regular ed curriculum with support and modifications. The ELA component is my favorite. The students enjoy the stories and the leveled comprehension activities are appropriate for their varied learning.
Pros
- ELA: the leveled reader, the easy reader, and comprehension activities
- ELA: the high frequency and spelling lists/activities
- ELA: vocabulary activities
Cons
- louder volume especially on High frequency words student interactive word multiple choice
- more printable math practice that could be graded throughout the month
- videos to accompany vocabulary words would be helpful
- Ease of planning/lesson plans each month after I got used to format and layout
- Benchmarks are easy to give even though they take quite a bit of time to administer individually. Data is good for IEP information
- ULS helps with data tracking
Lesson planning is so much easier because everything is in the same place every unit/month. Students know and expect the routine of repeated lessons with different content each month. I am required to give letter grades to my self-contained students which is typically difficult, but with Unique Learning System there are many lessons that can be graded.
On the High Frequency Words Student interactive lesson, one of my students independently wrote the sentence when I said it but before I wrote it on the board. Previously, she had only copied the sentences.
