(1-8 of 8)- The various contents of a database can be viewed using the connection tree
- We can run SQL queries to generate reports in various formats
- Debugging of queries is smooth
- More RAM usage by SQL Developer which makes it slow sometimes for big queries
- The database automatically gets disconnected when it is idle for sometime
- Auto-completion of queries is not available
Software for everyone using DB
- Simple UI. Even new joiners can easily use it.
- Autocomplete feature. It recommends a completion for every line.
- Debugging is easy. Oracle SQL Developer displays what ever the error is.
- Supports various kind of DB. Not just SQL.
- Easy installation and setup.
- It is free to use and one doesn't need to buy anything.
- Easily export data into different formats like Excel, TSV file, text file, html, etc.
- There are fewer features compared to other software available in market.
- Good quality reporting, sorting ,filtering features are not available.
- Lags upon heavy usage.
- Connection from DB gets disconnected if query is stopped.
- Query running status still comes even if at the backend the query has been stopped and person keeps on waiting.
SQL developer is not suited to a person who is a database administrator or works on creating big stored procedures, as it will feel laggy and supports fewer features.
Reliable tool for Oracle DBs
- Database manipulation and SQL editing.
- PL/SQL code development.
- Modern IDE like features, like wider linting support.
- More customization.
Looking for a better way to Develop SQL
- It lets us create new objects easily and modify the DDL within the tool quite easily.
- I love the data review tab that shows the data quickly and helps us profile the data.
- Exporting data from one object to another is great.
- Import/export data to the cloud.
- Does not do a good job of auto-connecting to a previous connection and you have to go through a couple of clicks and refresh.
Oracle SQL Developer -- A Very Useful Tool!
- SQL Developer aids in writing queries in several ways, such as syntax highlighting, code formatting, auto-complete suggestions, error displays, and much more.
- You can easily export your results into a variety of formats such as Excel, CSV, Insert statements, etc.
- The product allows you to store your database connections so you only need to select from a drop-down which database (or which user account) you want to use to execute a query or script.
- You can view all database objects under specific schemas or user accounts and drill down to the most granular details.
- There are a fair number of bugs that are identified in the product regularly, but Oracle generally releases updates several times per year to address issues and introduce new features.
- Although you can collapse certain sections of code, it is not always reliable and sometimes auto-expands.
- Some settings are not retained from session to session. For example, I like specific columns to be expanded in my results so I can see the entire value.
On the flip side, I would not recommend this tool for business users with no experience with SQL. SQL Developer is much more user-friendly and powerful than the old-school SQL*Plus, but you still need to have some basic understanding of how to work with databases.
SQL Developer is a must-have for Oracle
- Highlights syntax assisting in the proper development and completion of statements.
- Allows toggling of breakpoints for SQL debugging. By using these breakpoints, I can evaluate variable values real-time as the query executes.
- Highlights syntax errors and upon hover, displays proper syntax with a direct link to the appropriate documentation for the statement in question.
- It would be helpful if one could quickly and easily integrate another editor into this tool. Although the provided editor is quite useful, other 3rd-party editors are much more powerful.
- SQL Developer should be able to easily integrate with source control providers other than GIT and Subversion.
- The syntactical auto-completion should allow some keystroke to complete and suggested statement rather than requiring a mouse-click to accept the suggestion.
SQL Developer is less appropriate for end users querying database tables. The interface is designed more towards developers and less towards end users.
Why Should i Trust SQL?
- Great Activity Monitoring
- Great Management of Databases and Objects on the instance
- Great Query Optimization module
- Machine Learning Functionalities
- Auto-format of the code
- Resource Management
- Enables our team to quickly and effectively access information from our database.
- Produces an easily readable view of the SQL scripts being written with debugging suggestions clearly marked. This helps with writing scripts in real time. I am able to see exactly where my script is creating an error.
- SQL Developer auto completes table names, commands, functions, and field names. This is very helpful when trying to quickly write SQL script.
- The interface is easy to navigate between input and output.
- Encrypted connection to the database can be a little difficult especially when you have multiple database instances required for development and production.
- The interface can be made to be a bit more user-friendly in terms of troubleshooting and suggestions for better utilization of the software.
- Default settings should be easier to set such as keeping the line numbers in view at all times.
