Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365
Origin Storage use[s] Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 across the whole organisation, after recently moving our e-mail and Unified Communications to the Microsoft Office 365 cloud service. The biggest problem that we faced when moving to the cloud was that Microsoft does not actually backup your data, and that we would be at risk of losing everything if something happened. Veeam made our job so much easier by allowing us to backup all our Office 365 data in quick time without any delays.
- Deployment - It is very quick and easy to get deployed, with only a few non-technical steps.
- Speed - The backups are performed extremely quickly which means that our internet bandwidth is not being utilised for long periods of time.
- Reliability - Backups are always performed on time and to completion.
- Better integration of admin console and Teams, Exchange & Sharepoint explorers to give you everything in one console.
- Automatic updates tool that makes it easier to see if you need an update, current one fails to find important security patches.
- Better quick start wizard to get you connected to Office 365 and backing up.
- Meets the requirements of our ISO27001 policies by allowing us to securely backup our offsite cloud data.
- Reduced the number of hours spent managing the backups compared to previous solution.
We read an article online regarding the misunderstanding that Office 365 data is not backed up automatically by Microsoft and can be easily recovered in the event of data loss. This lead us to approach resellers with a view to obtaining quotes and demos from the various vendors, of which Veeam put forward the best solution.
Once you realise that your data is not safe by default because it is not backed up by Microsoft, then the easy choice is to go with Veeam.

We had a recent case where a user deleted several e-mails without realising and only two months later when they needed to refer to them did they realise that they were missing. Using the Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 we had immediate onsite access to the backups, located the missing e-mails with ease and then restored them back to the users mailbox with little fuss.
We have so far only restored back to Office 365 to its original location, however we have utilised the export as .pst feature to ensure we could keep an archive copy of a mailbox belonging to an employee that left. This saved us keeping their mailbox online in Office 356 (saving us money) and meant we did not need to keep the backups (saving us space).
The number one feature would have to be the Explorers that allow you to open any of the Teams, Exchange and SharePoint backups to then locate and extract the exact item(s) that you are looking for, it saves so much time over having to restore the whole backup. My second feature would be the e-mail notifications with details logs to allow me to see how the daily backups performed and ensure that any issues are resolved immediately, it may seem like a small thing but so many software companies get this wrong with either too much or too little information.
