Apify vs. Octoparse

Apify is great for solo developers who want to monetize scraping tools without building payment or infrsturctre themselves and want to get paid for their products, it is also great for developers who are targeting niche markets, I built scrapers for African real estate data which has very little competition on the store, which makes it easier for my products to be found.

I used Octoparse to get mostly ecommerce data and it is working well. I think it can get data from most web pages as long as you can see it on the pages. Because it is scraping the data by getting into the source code of the page or something. And it is good for people who do research: the software can organize and clean the data, so you are able to export structured data into Excel or CSV. This is convenient for further analysis.

• Some actors are very expensive and offer limited value - $120 / month before event charges? That's insane. The monthly price also isn't listed in the main search screen, so you need to go in manually to each actor to ascertain how much it really costs
• Some actors often break after a while and you need to start searching for new ones... but I guess that's the price for relying on 3rd party actors in your marketplace
• The review/quality process isn't great to navigate when looking for a new tool.

• Concurrent extractions can be improved.
• Download the results in the form of graphs after processing (Could be the new feature).
• Time to access extracted data from cloud.

It's the best because you can just load in a limited amount of money and limit your financial exposure to using a tool like this. so renewing isn't a big consideration... i know that i'm going to need the tool in the future and i'll load it with money accordingly when im ready.

This is a must-have tool. Honestly, it's hard for me to point out any real downsides. Maybe the pricing structure for the different actors was a bit confusing at first. But after a few minutes, it was clear to me. Other than that, the whole setup was straightforward. If you struggle with it, any AI agent can handle it for you.

Apify has a cleaner interface, better documentation, and a lower learning curve for building and scheduling scraping workflows than Bright Data. The Apify Store has thousands of prebuilt Actors that can often be used immediately or customized with minimal effort. I also didn't need the extremely strong anti-bot measures from Bright Data at the time given the purpose.

Other similar products like webautomation.io and webscarpper.io were tried and implemented along with Octoparse. Thier trial versions have much more limited features. The complexity while using Octoparse is relatively low and much more effecient and powerful to implement as compared to other softwares. Also usecases are quick to learn and implement.
