Aptean Intuitive ERP vs. Intuit Lacerte

If you have a programmer and are willing to let them learn the system and want software to function the way you run your business this may work well. If you do not have a programmer on staff and are willing to change your business to match the software but think in the future you may wish to modify your ERP software this may work out well. If you want something you can modify quickly this is not a good choice. If you do not wish to modify the code nor your business practices an evaluation would be required. It does allow substantial modifications, but there are areas it may not fit with your business so well. It is possible that Intuitive may happen to make the options you require available in the future.

This software is great for a tax preparer that wants the whole package from organizers to customer returns with letters and invoices. This is the best software with everything combined together. For new tax preparers looking for expensive software and are willing to some items (invoices) organizers, scheduling) through other means, Intuit Lacerte might be too expensive. But once the practice grows the time saved having all the “bells and whistles “ is worth every penny!

• Documentation. The design of en extensible system works well once you figure it out. Some things can be tricky and time consuming.
• They provide no support for customizations. I can understand not wanting to help write specific custom code, but they refuse to even tell anyone what a method on a base class does unless you pay them $200 an hour.
• Their proprietary design can cause modifications to take longer. If you use one of their forms you can not load it, you must call their launch function and put you code in the "Execute" method. If they were more standardized the documentation issue would not be so bad.

• Although Intuit Lacerte offers the option for clients to by by refund, it is limited to 2 banks which means we could have to change banks to offer this service, broadening the banks relationship would assist us greatly.
• Although Intuit Lacerte is set up for running reports, they are not as dynamic as they could be, for example, running a report for all clients working for a specific employer, or occupation if we were targeting an audience.

We have a lot invested in this from user education to customizations. It would be hard to justify the cost for changing.

Intuit Lacerte is not only easy for those veteran users such as myself, but is it also easy to teach to the new users, which makes it a good fit for a firm such as ours that has a high volume of interns and trainees in the industry. Many of which can then take that experience with them to the next firm they move on to, which exhibits as perpetual value.

Lacerte customer service has been great. They are very knowledgeable about the product and can help resolve problems quickly.

We select Aptean 19 years ago, most of the other SMB packages back then no longer exist. While we have discussed whether to consider other ERP systems here an there over the years we have always come back to the fact that our existing ERP system is well established and easy enough to maintain, and is cost effective

I’ve heard other tax preparers talk about their software and their likes and dislikes. When I offer to show them Intuit Lacerte most are blown away by what it does. One preparer used ProConnrct online tax (also by Intuit), and she loves how easy Intuit Lacerteis to use. She said having live support (not chat) to actually be able to show issues and work through them was great. Both programs use the same calculations, but the extras (trial balance, organizers with prior year data, invoicing, scheduling, filters, etc) are what makes Intuit Lacerte the best!

• One server license required for site, can run several businesses

• Docusign feature a big plus
• Lacerte Diamond Passport fees is highly priced at 17.5K USD + fastpath additional per user. They could consider to bring down the cost so that it works out lucratively.
