Cisco 1000 Series Connected Grid Routers (CGR 1000)

Cisco Routers do well at everything from small home office networks that require basic security to large scale service provider implementations that include SD_WAN security. Their routers scale well and they have everything from small 4 port access routers to large enterprise Core routers that function as the backbone of very large networks.

Recommending this device completely depends on the use case. If you are looking for a device that can be easily configured to dump clients on your private network, these are the ones to get. We've sent them home with users, sent them to small offices, or just for a meeting off-site. You can turn almost any internet connection into a home office. It's been very helpful during COVID-19 as we have needed to setup multiple offices outside of our normal area. Setup in the field does not require a technical person, just plugin and you are up and running.

  • Being one of the most versatile routing/switching platforms available, it fulfills most functions one would need in a compact appliance.
  • I have not experienced lack of functionality in any areas we use the appliance for.
  • One small feature I would like to have is 19" rack mount.

Cisco 1000 Series Connected Grid Routers (CGR 1000)

Cisco and HPE Routers are comparable products. Both do the job well without many differences. I would say HP Routers are easier to configure but come with a small performance hit compared to Cisco routers of the same size/scope. Cisco has the brand recognition and many more certified professionals using them though.

Cisco 800 Series Integrated Services Routers (ISR 800)

We built a total Cisco environment based on Cisco-only network equipment. We started with UCS for Compute and network, and are now switching to HyperFlex. This is all connected to Nexus switches and some Catalyst switches for OOBM. This is also all connected to the internet by an HA cluster of Cisco ASAs.On remote sites, we are using Cisco ASAs with Catalyst switches with 1800 APs with Mobility Express. In some specific cases we missed routing equipment or routing functions not available on Cisco ASAs, so we selected and are using Cisco Routers.
