This is all about the selling you a "Device" and prices vary greatly between resellers. The devices work well, but the pure cloud solutions need a lot of work.
I think Symantec Endpoint Protection provides very good protection from all kind of threats. Due to the lean interface, it is sure easy to use. However, set up and start up is time-consuming. It can cause old computers to slow down during start up. Overall, it does perform at the top level as a business-level endpoint protection solution. I feel very safe while working at the office as I've never encountered any issues with this software before. Any kind of spyware or malware is defeated instantly by the help of this up-to-date database.

SQL Backups just don't work reliably. For us, we lost all of our SQL data backed up through the CTERA Application process. Although the logs indicated a success, that was really not the case. This came close to putting us out of business. Luckily I had taken a genuine SQL backup to a folder. Unfortunately it was a month old. We had to pick-up the pieces from there.
Don't use it for file sync and share. There are better products out there i.e. anchorworks.com
Support sucks. Good luck with response time and answers that are inconsistent between team members. For example I had to rebuild a VM from scratch. When I re-installed the CTERA client It obviously thought I was adding another device. When I inquired to tech support, one member said "copy the old Data folder" (I still had the old VHD. That did not work). The other directed me to the correct spot to just change the associated folder. The turn-around time was over 24 hours for this simple fix.
Documentation, plenty of fodder but no real tech there.
The process to set up a user account is a real pain. Symantec requires the user answer a bunch of security questions if they need to reset their password, but no one ever remembers the answers to the questions that they selected.
Since we use this for remote users who don't always connect to our VPN, when they change their network password it isn't always reflected in Windows and the Symantec Endpoint Encryption (SEE) passwords frequently get out of sync. When the user eventually does connect to the VPN, they do sync and really throw the user for a loop in which passwords to use.
We found a huge problem with SSDs where an encrypted drive operated twice as slow as a mechanical drive. I believe this was addressed in a later release.

Unfortunately CTERA does not stack up well if you want a pure cloud BDR. I have use iDrive and Asigra. iDrive has similar support and SQL backup issues. Asigra can vary widely in support and price, but the software is solid.
We needed a tool to manage BitLocker and FileVault and this product does both. Also, we needed a product to manage our self-encrypting drives (OPAL drives) and things work great
