Dalet
Ooyala provides the opportunity to scale and manage multiple services and platforms in the organization with its integration services with internal tools like Slack and multiple other applications. Also, it helps you understand the views, reach, and engagement with the videos that help you define your next campaign strategy. In my experience, Ooyala could be less appropriate for managing URLs and unreliability may make you upload videos more than once.

OnApp
OnApp CDN is great for virtually any site with a desire or requirement to offload processing resources to a content delivery network in general. The OnApp CDN is one of the largest, if not largest CDNs on the planet and is well equipped to handle virtually any type of file distribution, including video. Video distribution POPs on the OnApp CDN are less available because each host that offers video has special requirements they may or may not be willing to get involved with. If you plan to distribute video on OnApp CDN first check if the number of POPs available for serving video suit your needs

Pros
Dalet
  • It's intuitive and easy to use.
  • Ooyala Now is the only product I have seen to date that shows me real-time usage.
  • I like the people.

OnApp
  • Ease of setup. You can be CDN enabled within a few minutes.
  • Huge CDN network rivals any other out there.
  • Competitive pricing due to web hosts who own OnApp CDN Edge Servers competing for traffic on their CDN POPs.

StreamShark
  • StreamShark has an excellent live support model, which gives us real-time support on live stream productions. Another feature we like is the Okta SSO integration. This makes it simple to manage access to the videos and streams.
  • Our account manager, James Broberg, is an absolute pleasure to work with. He clearly has our goals in mind when he suggests the new features in our bi-weekly meeting.
  • Additionally, the StreamShark support team, namely, Yudong, Robert, and Aakanksha drive our requests to completion in a timely manner.
  • The look and feel of the GUI is user-friendly.

Cons
Dalet
  • Ooyala's integration with the ad serving platform is not as good in terms of user interface and user experience.
  • The user interface could be improved (making it more like YouTube and Vimeo).
  • The feature that provides scheduling could be improved to be seamless for publishing to Instagram.

We have used all the rival products. Ooyala has been our favourite for years, but feel like they have stalled in new product development.

OnApp
We compared VMware for its virtualization capabilities and ended up deciding on OnApp as the UI was more intuitive for less technical support staff, which meant that our customers would have more staff available to help them with cloud related issues. We also checked our Akamai specifically for CDN however again the OnApp platform seemed simpler and less expensive to leverage, and with the added benefit that we had more control of the CDN 'in-house' than using a fully third party platform

StreamShark
I had been researching different virtual event s and streaming platforms and kept coming up against the same problems. They either couldn't be branded, the signup flow added friction and would have caused drop off, or quality of the stream was poor. It was also important that I was able to get data and analytics from the stream. This meant that embedded YT live was out of the question because embedded YT don't always count the views. StreamShark Live Streaming Platform allowed for a solve for all of these problems.

Return on Investment
Dalet
  • Ooyala certainly helped improve ROI.
  • It also provides a strong capability for integration with other marketing automation tools for improved digital marketing ROI.
  • Reduction in cost of operations can be easily achieved with integrations with multiple software applications.

OnApp
  • OnApp in general has been a good investment, though in the early days this was a questionable result as stability was nothing like what it is today. Things have gotten much better over the years and I would anticipate OnApp to generate ROI so long as customers are looking for cloud and CDN solutions in general. I'm not sure that investing in OnApp as a hosting provider specifically for the CDN capability will generate any positive return, but the OnApp system as a whole has the features required that most should be able to make a return on.

StreamShark
  • This service has positively impacted the organization by allowing larger audiences to receive information and act on said information in a more timely manner. This equates to more productivity around the organization, as initiatives and objectives can be efficiently shared with remote attendees in all of our different office locations.
