There are really only 2 tools in industry that have the function of geoSCOUT (the other being Accumap.) Both are similar. I'd recommend geoSCOUT for project/area specific work. I'd recommend Accumap for start-up companies who are trying to establish their 'playground' as it's easier to navigate province wide assets, whereas new maps are required for geoSCOUT.

Dassault Systemes
I have only used it for exploration projects but understand that with additional modules (such as pit design and production rates) it can be used for production schedules too. The software acts as a central interface for all of the drilling data from the borehole trace with customisable graphics or traces alongside (e.g.: geology, mag sus, assay results, struc info, etc) to the exporting of sections for field interp or planning; and resource block modeling.

Cons
geoLOGIC systems
  • Cross sections are not always that visually appealing. Cross sections from Petrel look much better.

  • Interface is good, but could always be improved
  • Occasionally a little buggy when mapping DBs
  • Extensive additional module list; can customise experience and therefore cost but some would expect certain features as standard

Alternatives Considered
geoLOGIC systems
Accumap is also a similar tool. The two tools contain the same information, although geoSCOUT has extra modules which have been somewhat useful. For the most part, engineers pull raw production, completions and facilities data. geoSCOUT is better for visualizing plans and allowing toggling of different considerations using the layer manager.

Lower cost and more user-friendly. My understanding is that the functionality is somewhat more limited but for our use in exploration it does the job and does it very well.
