Overall Satisfaction with geoSCOUT

My department is using the program. Students have access to it within a few labs at the University. It is mostly used for research purposes and within classes.
  • Visualizing locations of wells—the map view has many customizable features.
  • visualizing cross sections.
  • Cross sections are not always that visually appealing. Cross sections from Petrel look much better.
  • Visualizing data
  • Integral part to research
  • Petrel E&P
GeoScout is very good for basic subsurface geology. It is fairly easy to use, once you figure out where different command buttons and functions are located. Data is already within GeoScout so you do not have to import anything. Petrel is much more powerful and provides a lot of tools for modeling and seismic visualization.
GeoSCOUT is well suited for basic subsurface geology. You cannot make 3D models like you can in other programs though.
