IBM Security QRadar SIEM vs. LogRhythm NextGen SIEM Platform

QRadar is very well suited on environments where there are not multiple tenants or domains, we do have success on this kind of scenario. IBM Security QRadar SIEM is less appropriate for environments with multiple tenants, specially when each tenant represent a different End Costumer (such as for MSSP companies), those environments require a high amount of rules and building blocks replications, since each tenant will have its own "BB definitions", servers, rules exception, etc. Also, some information, such as EPS count or EPS dropped are generated by QRadar's own log sources, which takes place on default domain, therefore users associated with different domain can not have access to those logs, even when the information is related to other domain's environment. For example, even if Event Collector 1 is associated to Domain A, the log informing its dropped EPS is generated by System notification, log source that must be associated to Default domain.

LogRhythm is good for providing a comprehensive view of the environment. It gives a great outline of whatever is going on in our servers and systems regarding security malfunctions. The SIEM sends real-time notifications when there are some occurrences; like creating a new user and inappropriate login attempts. It also avails a good use case that meets our HIPAA compliance.

• LogRhythm is a great SIEM to learn content on because the building blocks are very intuitive and easy to implement. All of the concepts relevant to content development are literally represented as drag and drop building blocks that can be easily manipulated.
• The statistical building blocks contain powerful anomaly detection capabilities that are extremely difficult to implement in other SIEMs or not possible at all.
• LogRhythm does better event classification than any other SIEM by far. My team typically drops all classification schemes from default installations of SIEMs and rebuilds them from scratch. I can actually use LogRhythms event classifications in rules without worrying about excessive partial matches or correlating unwanted events.

• Need to spend more time configuring the system to properly interpret and normalize different type of data collected from multiple resources.
• While Rule creation QRadar uses that rules to detect security threats and generate alerts, but to creating and managing rules is bit complex & tedious work to complete.
• IBM Security QRadar SIEM is excellent in handling large & complex systems that requires in-depth knowledge and extensive training to configure and maintain the system which includes upgrading, optimization of performance & issue troubleshooting.

With the arrival of IBM Security QRadar SIEM at our company, we have a better vision of all the security needs that may arise, it is a very safe software to use that prevents threats from damaging our IT environment, it is impossible to change it for another software.

LogRhythm is focused on SIEM. That is their core business. Cost of operations, feature set and ease of use. The Log Rhythm support team is outstanding. Overall reliability is good. Reporting module needs some improvement and LR is promising that there will be significant improvements in future releases.

As a grade I give 8 as QRadar is not easy to learn. It requires some time to master it. It also needs a team of people actively working on the product. Once you learn to use it the software works very well and it is easy to correlate and understand detected threats. It only takes time to learn how to use it well and configure it properly.

LogRhythm does a rather decent job of making the functionality advanced (allowing for advanced keyword & field searching, use of "AND" as well as "OR" statements in the search bar) while keeping it accessible (by not requiring a specific syntax to do quick searches). This combined with a user interface that has headings and labels that are intuitive is very helpful.

Customer support is Good of IBM, While Using IBM QRadar its deployment is to slow and suddenly stop working and crashed we have contacted IBM Support and Rised a Ticket within a few minute we get call back from customer support and Query Resolved by them Fast And Rapid Support of Ibm

Support has always been fantastic for this product compared to many other support providers I've worked with. They are always very friendly and seem to be well trained and knowledgeable and never have to wait long for a solution. We usually get the issue fixed in the first call, but also we really haven't had to use support a ton so that's also a plus

Initial patience is required to learn how to use the product, and it takes a dedicated team to use it. One person is not enough, and it's not enough to just set it up and check it once in a while. It has to be used daily and kept under control to be used effectively

• Remember that the end point log configuration may require other teams in your company to assist you in getting the desired logs from all resources.
• Attend the end user and daily operations training after a period of usage so you are not overwhelmed with information on concepts not yet seen.

• Don't close any ticket until you are sure the expected results are verified.
• Use the community forums to discuss issues with your peers.

I would always recommend Splunk over IBM Security QRadar SIEM unless you're trying to save money or only onboarding and normalizing well known data sources. IBM Security QRadar SIEM doesn't seem to handle RBA and complicated, chaining correlation rules very effectively and if I had to write a custom add-on for custom data, I found it easier to do so in Splunk.

I think Logrhythm still has a lot of work to do to catch up with competitors in many areas. They need to improve their design cycle, with a cycle that's completely focused on bug fixing and reliability, without introducing any new features to improve the system's overall reliability. They also need to improve their API, as now all security solutions should talk very well with each other, which APIs can enable.

• One of the positive impacts that we experienced from LogRhythm NextGen SIEM Platform is the Dynamic Alarming System. It shows the recent tickets, and we know what exactly to prioritize at the start of the day.
• The search tool also helped us trace back wireless users by log correlation that we almost gave up our hope for.
• A slightly negative impact that can be featured it relying too much on it. We have been a victim of a false alarm and went on a completely wrong direction until we tallied with the Log source and found the problem. It is good, but we must correspond against the log source to be confirmed.
