Jellyfish
Jellyfish allows us to understand the allocation of our efforts without time tracking. We are also able to integrate this platform with our existing ticket tracking system and can see analytics instantly! Jellyfish works well for our teams because it has an opinionated view. Jellyfish understands that the metrics for an engineering team should help you understand what your organization values and is actively working on. We can use Jellyfish in a strategic way compared to other tools like this.

I find Monday helpful for lead management. It's great because details like phone, email, and addresses are specific columns from which we can grab data and pull it into other areas. It's great to see who is assigned what and to know what the next steps are for your leads. We use a different scheduling tool with our team, as that calendar view isn't as robust.

Cons
Jellyfish
  • UI and navigation aren't very intuitive and require additional research before being able to use.
  • The individual developer metrics are not very useful and make the interface feel cluttered.
  • Overall, it takes time for the end-user to truly learn how to use the platform and navigate. There is so much information/data available that although the above is a con, we felt it still made sense, despite the learning curve.

  • Sometimes, it's a little technical to set up. Someone who isn't particularly savvy will have a hard time setting it up.
  • Sometimes there are glitches in the automations.
  • The comments areas can be confusing- how they nest. Things can get lost in there.

I give a ten for monday dev's usability because it was a really smooth transition coming from Jira to monday dev. All team members also felt that way. When managing projects, the quality and various options I am able to customize views and columns for each task is really a dealbreaker. Approved.

Alternatives Considered
Jellyfish
The really cool thing about Jellyfish is the integrations that it has with the other tools, which are also very common within the software development industry. Consolidating all this data and being able to see graphs, numbers, and percentages in one place gives you a better way to analyze and define better solutions to improve your software development processes.

It is at least as good as these tools, in many ways, it is better because it is easier to use and setup. It doesn't require a full-time admin like these tools do. It does lack some of the detailed reporting and such that these offer, but the product is still young and growing. These are much more well-developed tools

Return on Investment
Jellyfish
  • Easy setup and takes time to learn, but overall easy to use one you get the hang of it.
  • Strategic roadmapping.
  • Return on Investment increased.

  • Although the initial operational cost is usually somewhat high, it is really worth considering in an environment with more than 10 employees working together.
  • In project costing (web development) it is quite acceptable and falls within the scope of the final product quote.
  • I don't have exact numbers or percentages (because I'm not in charge of that section) but I can say that it falls within a good to acceptable ROI range.
