I am not sure if we looked into any other cloud storage applications or software. But I do highly recommend Nasuni. If you have feedback, they actually listen. We even got to meet with the founder and he listened to a lot of our feedback. Whether or not they will implement and …
The technical support and escalation path for Nasuni is much more reliable and efficient. No getting transferred to various teams. Often times, the person who answers your call is able to resolve your issue. If they cannot, they get the case assigned to the appropriate …
Iterra is a less capable "little brother" product to MIMIX. Iterra like MIMIX was acquired by Vision, then subsequent owning organizations, now Precisely. Most of the original core Iterra functionality has been rolled into MIMIX. The Iterra product still exists but in a very …
We used MIMIX for its role for iSeries high availability. We used Double Take by Vision Solutions for our production Windows environment. MIMIX is designed for iSeries, and Double Take was designed for Windows. We had VMware virtual environment, running multiple VMs for …
It is great for organizations that do not want to be limited to the size of their storage appliance. Since the hardware is used primarily as a cache, there is no cap of the amount of data. Anything beyond the cache size gets stored in the cloud, and Nasuni has advanced logic that ensures the most active data stays in cache, so performance is not impacted.
MIMIX is well suited when the organization requires a PLANNED Switch. MIMX will also work for any unplanned switches. However, this is not the most ideal situation and we have had to perform at least once when the older iSeries hardware failed, and the business transactions were on hold, impacting the business. MIMIX support was required to be called upon to assist. We were able to get the new iSeries online within an hour, so thankfully the outage to the business was miminal. It is important that any organization utilizing MIMIX schedule, prepare, and plan for the PLANNED Switch, at least once per year, if not twice per year.
The management console is extremely simple and easy to navigate, making common tasks easy to do.
Our storage appliance is configured to snapshot data several times an hour, making the risk of data loss very low.
Data restores are very intuitive, and take seconds to initiate regardless of whether it is one file or 300GB of data. We have successfully restored many Gigs of data in minutes.
As I mentioned, the user interface is amazing and straight forward. It's very easy to learn how to configure and restore files. I would like a bit more reporting, especially in terms of live reporting and monitoring. The support is great when you have a question on how to do something, which helps with usability.
MIMIX is software built for availability. By its nature it is must be available. As long as the underlying system and communication network are available MIMIX is working. And if there are failures in either of those, MIMIX is designed to allow for a quick and resilient recovery once underly systems or communications are restored
Again, it may have a little to do with the size and speed of your own environment, but we've been nothing but pleased with the speed of access of the files - even pulling old files from the cloud storage. Recovery of huge and many data files is a bit slow if you don't have the specs of the filer up to snuff.
I have never seen MIMIX itself be a performance bottleneck. However it is important to consider the network in overall performance of any remotely replicated systems. MIMIX can only replicate as fast as the network allows. But a strong capability of MIMIX is its ability to "buffer" its replication, so it can be sent without error as the network allows
Support is available and efficient. Response time is good and likelyhood of a quick resolutiion is high. However the mature solid product and proactive management tools, fortunately make support requirements relatively rare. The support for version upgrades is also strong, but again the basic upgrade process is usually straightforward and well documented.
I am not sure if we looked into any other cloud storage applications or software. But I do highly recommend Nasuni. If you have feedback, they actually listen. We even got to meet with the founder and he listened to a lot of our feedback. Whether or not they will implement and suggestions, having that listening ear is refreshing.
Iterra is a less capable "little brother" product to MIMIX. Iterra like MIMIX was acquired by Vision, then subsequent owning organizations, now Precisely. Most of the original core Iterra functionality has been rolled into MIMIX. The Iterra product still exists but in a very limited role. Precisely and the previous owner has been very clear in their recommendation to standardize on MIMIX.
MIMIX works to its intended functionality. It provides real time data replication across multiple partitions and systems as defined. I have never witnessed any problems with MIMIX in scaling to larger systems or adding new data groups. In conjunction with the inherent scalability of IBMi scalability and configuration flexibillity are rather quick and easy.
Having an HA/DR solution in place is viewed as a positive by customers and potential customers for the marketing of the organization's core products and services.
