It was chosen mainly because it delivers quick results at a cheap price. Some of its competitors are more thorough but they are expensive as well and have a longer processing time. It can be easily used by anyone and doesn't require any specific training or assistance.

Paper Rater is like a writing assistant that not only checks your grammar but also gives you comprehensive feedback on your writing.
I was able to use Paper Rater to check for plagiarism in mine. However, given Paper Rater's more academic approach, it offers a much more robust engine for this. For example, you will get an overall originality score and links to sources for copied material.
