Considered Both Products
PitchBook
Chose PitchBook
it is by far the most use friendly of the peer group. I think it missesd a lot of private data vs FAME, it misses some transaction data points vs mergermarket
Chose PitchBook
I think they all have their own strengths. In particular CapIQ I think is more outdated and less user friendly as a platform but I do think it was some better data on valuation multiples of precedent transactions
Chose PitchBook
We have not used any other products like PitchBook. It was our first and only choice.
Chose PitchBook
I have not used other tools for PE data.
Chose PitchBook
Compared the FactSet: PitchBook is far superior in providing private company data. On the excel tool front, we use Factset far more often due to the formulas and public company data availability Alphasense: we use PitchBook as our first source when looking for private company …
Chose PitchBook
Compared to D&B Hoovers, PitchBook offers more relevant, detailed, and up-to-date data for our research needs.
Chose PitchBook
PitchBook is superior in terms of aggregating a bunch of different data you would need to get from disparate systems
Chose PitchBook
I think PitchBook is the best for private markets compared to these platforms. These platforms may surpass PitchBook for public markets work.
Chose PitchBook
A bit more robust for public company data - mostly used CapIQ when in banking. Especially the CapIQ excel plug in. As a VC, I need private company data and Pitchbook is better at that
Chose PitchBook
I’ve used or evaluated tools like Macabacus and Grata. Macabacus is stronger than Pitchbook in Excel and PowerPoint workflow enhancements, which are critical for banking productivity. However, Pitchbook is far superior to Grata due to its richer public company information, …
Chose PitchBook
We switched over for Preqin and haven't looked back, Preqin felt as a pay-as-you-go system and as a relatively young alternatives program we kept facing paywalls so not ideal.
Chose PitchBook
Pitchbook has the most exhaustive coverage of private market data, and that makes it uniquely differentiated against any other data sources mentioned above. As for public data, I dont think it is any unique compared to Alphasense or CapIQ
Chose PitchBook
Products mentioned have similar but different use cases. First off, PB has better private company data than both of these (for now). I use CapIQ for public company data which PB lacks in many regards. I could see Alpha Sense taking priority over PB as the data offered on that …
Chose PitchBook
I also use SignalNFX, but it doesn't exist in the dropbox.

Signal is a much more practical tool when it comes to a preliminary search, and when it comes to connecting with the right person. It scrapes your gmail history and linkedin to find who you're really connected to and …
Chose PitchBook
PitchBook has a different value proposition in that it offers the Morningstar equity research, which we regard highly. It is also easier to use and navigate than the other terminals. Bloomberg and FactSet have a slightly different use case in that they provide real time market …
Chose PitchBook
PitchBook has more accurate information and does a much better job of updating information frequently.
Chose PitchBook
CB insights have a better market research functionality, offering pre-defined market definitions and proprietary framework for market analysis. They list all the significant players within a market and classify them into categories, which gives you a sense of who is doing well …
Chose PitchBook
Really well - though I think Beauhurst has the edge on UK specific investments, and Bloomberg has the edge on immediate updates. I think PitchBook is better than FDI markets though, I would definitely recommend purchasing a PitchBook license over FDI markets - but in a policy …
Chose PitchBook
PitchBook has a far broader and richer source of data.
Looking retrospectively at company/fund performance was incredibly useful.
I also like that there is a 'rumour' element to the news.
Chose PitchBook
PitchBook is the most polished and the most comprehensive tool of everything that I have tries in this space. Unparalleled coverage and structure. And to top it all of, the customer service is top notch. I have analyst hours each month to get any customized projects done by …
Chose PitchBook
Response specific to my line of work - The other sources we have don't carry in-depth tech market information. As such, PitchBook is my go-to source. Further, it also carries information about organizations providing services in various service lines and industry verticals …
Chose PitchBook
We use MergerMarket as well, but I prefer PitchBook.
Chose PitchBook
For current use case PB much more advanced

Less suited for run-of-the-mill information on clients(LinkedIn is great for that), however, it is great for tracking company information. I wouldn't go anywhere else. The breadth of information given to me is extremely helpful. Sometimes it can be a pain point to acknowledge that when I am researching older companies that have been merged, it is difficult to find information about them, leading me to look to sources like Wikipedia for even the most basic description.

Pros
  • Most complete data source when it comes to VC firms. By stitching together other sources, you can find almost everything you can on PitchBook, but PitchBook is much more convenient
  • The excel plugin has INCREDIBLE functionality. Anything you can do on the website, you can do in excel, and automate it.
  • The support is the best of any product I've ever used. They answer within 60 seconds and their support is incredibly highly skilled, and never tell you no.
  • All I do is figure out the scope of the project, then submit a support ticket and they build it out for me in excel formulas which I copy and paste and I'm done.

Cons
  • Coverage of deals in India seems to be much slower at this point
  • Updated company financials. Avoid showing dated 5 year old revenues would be better instead
  • An enhanced section focused on Incubators / Accelerators. I'd love a place to track my favorite incubators like YCombinator, Alchemist, etc., and find deals from them

Usability
I rely on PitchBook when researching potential investments, particularly in the tech and AI space. It’s an excellent tool for early-stage market analysis and becomes especially valuable when evaluating private or emerging startups. PitchBook provides all the essential company details—financials, funding history, valuations—which are critical for my work as an investment professional. The three points I took out is for the lack of market analysis framework and the lack of P&L data.

Support Rating
The overall support for PitchBook is about average. It is not excellent for two primary reasons. First, PitchBook can run slow from time to time, and I cannot copy and paste from the Chrome extension. I have found neither of those issues to be a function of the computer I am using. However, the PitchBook support team has proved helpful on several occasions.

Return on Investment
  • Would have to do my own web scrape or pay another party to execute that request which would be thousands of dollars and not as extensive as PB's offering.
  • If building an M&A target landscape, PB is an excellent resource in understanding who industry participants are and who may or may not be interested in selling.
  • Saved 30-60 minutes countless times from the brevity of information provided on a single company. Ability to understand historical cap table and latest available financials makes a dramatic difference.
